India ranks 39th in 2016-17 - Global Competitiveness Index
Among Important National Current Affairs, India has been ranked 39th among the 138 countries in the 2016-17 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI).
However, the index was released as part of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report for 2016-17.

On 28th September which day is observed across the world - World Rabies Day
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 28th September the World Rabies Day is observed across the world to raise awareness about the rabies disease and its preventable measures.
However, main aim of this day is to raise awareness about the impact of rabies on animals and human beings. It also seeks to share information on how to prevent the disease.
Here, 2016 Theme is: “Rabies: Educate. Vaccinate. Eliminate”.
Who will be honoured with Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement - Uttam Singh
Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, on 27th September 2016 Veteran music director and violinist Uttam Singh was named for the 2016 Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement of the Maharashtra Government.
However, the award carries a citation, a trophy and 500000 rupees in cash.
According to MEA, India will not attend SAARC Summit in - Islamabad
Among Important International Current Affairs, India will not take part in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Islamabad (Pakistan), which is to be held in November 2016.
However, this decision was taken in view of the continuous cross border terrorism by Pakistan which has created environment which is not conducive to successful holding of Summit.
Here, in this regard the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has conveyed to current SAARC Chair Nepal.
Please Note - Besides, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan also have conveyed their reservation about attending the Summit.
Who has been appointed as a new Indian Ambassador to US - Navtej Sarna
Among Important National Current Affairs, recently India's High Commissioner to Britain Navtej Sarna was appointed as the next Ambassador to the US as that country prepares for a presidential transition.
According to an External Affairs Ministry statement - "Navtej Singh Sarna (IFS: 1980) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United State of America,"
Navtej Sarna, is expected to take up the assignment shortly. He also takes charge after Arun Kumar Singh retired last month-end. Both Sarna and Singh.
World Bank reappoints whom for second term as President - Jim Yong Kim
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 27th September 2016 Executive Directors of the World Bank agreed unanimously to reappoint Jim Yong Kim to a second five-year term as President of the World Bank Group, beginning 1 July 2017.
However, the Board noted that in the first year of Kim’s leadership, which began in July 2012, shareholders endorsed two ambitious new goals for the institution.
They were: Elimination of extreme poverty by 2030, and Promotion of shared prosperity. These new initiatives boosted the income growth of the bottom 40 percent of the population in every developing country.
Sukhbir Singh Badal to inaugurate which largest plant in Punjab - Solar Power Plant
On 29th September 2016, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is all set to inaugurate the largest power plant at a single location in the state in Mansa.
According to Punjab New and Renewable Energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the 31.5 MW solar power plants, set up with an investment of Rs 200 crore at Mirpur Kalan village is one of the state’s biggest investments.
Belgium Open title of Table Tennis won by - Sathiyan Gnanasekaran
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, Indian paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has won the Belgium Open title of the table tennis in the men’s singles category.
However, this was Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s first pro title.
In this final match played at De Haan in Belgium, he defeated defeating local player Nuytinck Cedric 4-0 score in the final with 15-13, 11-6, 11-2, 17-15.
Here, with this victory he also becomes only the second Indian table tennis player to win an ITTF event.
