    Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed United Nations (UN) General Assembly

    On 27th September 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed United Nations (UN) General Assembly. It was his first speech after being PM of the country at UN General Assembly.

    It is Important to mention this he delivered his speech in Hindi. Before him only former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee has did so.

    Jayalalithaa sentenced to 4 years in jail and a fine of 100 crore

    On 28th September 2014, J Jayalalithaa became first incumbent chief minister to be convicted for corruption and was sentenced for 4 years in Jail and Rs 100 crore fine. Special judge John Michael Cunha found the her guilty of owning more wealth than she could account for. This conviction disqualified her as an MLA and she will not be able to contest elections too for a decade, which certainly has made her political career uncertain.

    FIR was registered in September 1996 and the case dragged on for nearly 18 years. 

    Justice H L Dattu Sworn in as Chief Justice of India

    On 28th September 2014, Justice H.L. Dattu was sworn-in as the Chief Justice of India. His oath of office was administered by President Pranab Mukherjee at Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

    Hill will be at this top position till 2nd December 2015. He succeeds Chief Justice R.M. Lodha.

    On 28th September 2014, PM Narendra Modi addressed Indian-Americans at world famous Madison Square Garden. Here too he delivered his speech in Hindi. 

    Madison Square Garden which has a capacity of 20K persons to sit was fully packed as many people were not able to get tickets were watching it outside at big screens.
