President released Tulsi Smriti Granth on Acharya Tulsi
On 26th October 2014, Book titled Tulsi Smriti Granth on Acharya Tulsi was released. President Pranab Mukhejee received first copy from Dr. Karan Singh who formally released it.
Acharya Tulsi was a prominent Jain religious leader. He was born in 1914 in Ladnun, Rajasthan. He was the successor of Acharya Kalughanin. He passed away in 1997.
Acharya Tulsi was conferred with various awards viz. Indira Gandhi National Unity Award, Bharat Jyoti, Vak Pati Samman, Hakim Sur Khan Award etc.
Japan's SoftBank to invest 10 billion dollars in India
Among the Major Financial Current Affairs, On 27th October 2014, Telecom giant SoftBank announced to make an investment of 10 billion US dollars in India's IT and Communications sector in coming years. SoftBank is aiming at telecom space and e-commerce sector in India.
This proposal was made by SoftBank Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Masayoshi Son during his meeting with Ravi Shankar Prasad (Union Telecom Minister). Masayoshi Son also met Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Govt scrapped ongoing selection process of CMDs, EDs in PSBs
Among the Banking Current Affairs, On 27th October 2014, The Union Finance Ministry scrapped the current selection process for the posts of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) and Executive Director (ED) of Public Sector Banks (PSBs).
This decision was taken after receiving the report of a committee that was constituted to examine the selection process. This committee was consisted of Secretary Expenditure, Secretary School Education and the RBI Governor.
Important to note here that Earlier CBI found irregularities in the PSU chief selection process after Syndicate Bank CMD SK Jain's arrest in August 2014 over graft charges.
PM Modi holds talk with Vietnam PM Nguyen Tan Dung
On 28th October 2014, Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. This meeting was aimed to boost bilateral and regional ties. Earlier Prime Minister of Vietnam also received a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is on two day visit to India and he began his visit by paying obeisance at Mahabodi Temple in Bihar.
Jawhar Sircar elected Vice President in Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union
On 28th October 2014, Prasar Bharati chief executive officer Jawhar Sircar was was elected as vice president of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). He was elected in the ongoing convention and general assembly at Macau.
A Surya Prakash appointed as new Prasar Bharati Chairman
On 28th October 2014, Senior journalist A Surya Prakash appointed as new Prasar Bharati Chairman. He will be serving at this position for three years.
He was appointed after the recommendation of three-member committee headed by Vice President M Hamid Ansari. He will succeed another veteran journalist Mrinal Pande who completed her tenure on April 30 this year.
