Which state to seek Union government’s approval for using deer antlers in Ayurveda medicines – Kerala
Among Important National Current Affairs, the Kerala Government has finally approached the Union Government for allowing use of antlers of spotted deer and sambar of Ayurveda medicines.
However, in this regard Kerala State Board for Wildlife (SBWL) under chairmanship of CM Pinarayi Vijayan has forwarded proposal to National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) and Ministry of Environment and Forests.
Also, SBWL is seeking suitable amendments to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 for using the antlers for medicinal purposes.
Japan PM Shinzo Abe offers - Pearl Harbor Condolences
Among Important International Current Affairs, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has visited the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. There, he offered "sincere and everlasting condolences" to the victims of Japan's attack on the base 75 years ago.
According to PM Shinzo - "We must never repeat the horrors of war again; this is the solemn vow the people of Japan have taken."
Here, Mr Abe was accompanied by US President Barack Obama, making the visit the first by the leaders of both countries.
Also, Japan devastated much of the base, killing more than 2,400 Americans.
Government names whom as RBI Deputy Governor - Viral V Acharya
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 28th December 2016 Government has appointed Viral V Acharya, as a new Deputy Governor at the Reserve Bank of India.
Viral V Acharya is a New York University economics professor who once called himself 'poor man's Raghuram Rajan'.
At the age of 42, Acharya's appointment for a three-year tenure was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Also, he is taking over at a time when the central bank is facing criticism for repeated changes in the rules related to deposit and withdrawal of money, post-demonetisation.
Who is re-elected as IIC president - Soli Sorabjee
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 26th December 2016 the former attorney general Soli J Sorabjee was re-elected president of the prestigious cultural institution India International Centre (IIC) for five years from 1st January, 2017.
However, the board of directors of IIC unanimously elected Sorabjee for a second consecutive term, recognising his services in furthering the objectives of India International Centre, which was inaugurated in the year 1962, by then Vice-President S Radhakrishnan to work towards promoting understanding and amity between different communities of the world.

Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 27th December 2016 The Indian Olympic Association has appointes Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala as its life presidents.
However, the IOA unanimously appointed the both to the post during its Annual General Meeting in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Very few people knew this that a life president of IOA is an honorary post with no voting rights or involvement in day-to-day functioning of the body.
