Narendra Modi took oath as 15th Prime Minister of India, with 24 Cabinet and 21 Ministers of State
On 26th May 2014, Narendra Modi was sworn in as 15th Prime Minister of India. He is heading a 45-member Union Council of Ministers including 24 with Cabinet rank and 21 Ministers of State. Oath to the office and secrecy was administered by the President Pranab Mukherjee in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers were appointed in term of Article 75 of the Constitution of India.
The sworn-in ceremony of Modi and his cabinet was attended by a strong gathering of 3000 people that included the heads of SAARC nations, cinema and religion, industry and politics. The representative from SAARC nations included

China cliched Uber Cup 2014 title of badminton
Among the Sports Current Affairs, On 24th May 2014, China won Uber Cup 2014 of badminton. China team defeated the Japan team 3-1 in the final held at Siri Fort Complex in New Delhi.
With this, China won the Uber Cup for the 13th time and it was China's eighth title from the last nine editions. China has reached 16 successive finals.
Important to note :
The Uber Cup is the World Team Championships for Women. It was named after a former British women's badminton player, Betty Uber. She gave the idea of hosting a women's event similar to that of the men (Thomas Cup).
In 2014, Foreign Exchange Reserves increased by 15.5 billion US dollar - RBI
Foreign exchange reserves increased by USD 15.5 billion in the financial year ended March 2014. This was revealed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data on the sources of variation in foreign exchange reserves during 2013-14 released on 26th May 2014.
As per the release, the foreign exchange reserves stood at 303.67 billion US dollar in the financial year ended on March 2014.
The foreign exchange reserves on nominal terms, increased by 12.2 billion US dollar in 2014 as against a decline of 2.4 billion US dollar in the same period of the 2013.
IAF's MiG-21 fighter aircraft crashes in Kashmir, Pilot dies
On 27th May 2014, Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft MIG-21 crashed at Marhama Sangam on National Highway in Bijbehara of Anantnag district in South Kashmir. The pilot squadron leader Raghu Banshi died on board in the crash. The injured co-pilot has been rushed to the Military hospital in Srinagar. However, no civilian death or loss of property was figured out in the crash as the plane crashed into the open field.
The MIG plane took off from Quil Pulwama Airbase, 25 kilometer from the crash point, for a routine daily exercise.
Delhi government will provide financial assistance to children of prisoners
In a unique effort towards the helpless, incarcerated prisoners, the department of women and child development is all set to extend financial assistance to their children in order to meet their basic requirements. On 26 May 2014, The Government of Delhi approved a scheme to provide a fixed amount of money to children of imprisoned parents on a monthly basis. This amount will be provided to the child till he or she attains the age of 18 or until the parents are released from prison, whichever is earlier.
As per the approved plan, the first child of the prisoner would get Rs 3,000 per month; second 2,000 per month while the third and onwards would get 1,500 per month till the age of maturity or release of the prisoner.
"The new scheme has been approved by the Finance Department for providing financial assistance to the children of incarcerate prisoners," said Saumya Gupta, director Women and Child Development.
Film Winter Sleep honoured with Palme d'Or Award at 67th Cannes Film Festival
Film Winter Sleep was honoured with Palme d'Or Award at the 67th Cannes Film Festival held in Cannes from 16 May to 25 May 2014. The film has been directed by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Winter Sleep is the second film by a Turkish director to win the highest honour of Cannes Film festival. Earlier in 1982, the film The Way directed by Turkish Directors Yilmaz Guney and Serif Goren won the Plame d'Or Award.

Military coup in Thailand announced by Royal Thai Army
The Royal Thai Army led by Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha announced military coup in Thailand. Earlier on 20 May 2014, the army declared imposition of martial law in Thailand.
This is the second military coup in Thailand after the 2006 military coup in which the then Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinatwara was toppled on account of corruption charges.
Important to Note :
All these actions of army happened after the caretaker government headed by Prime Minister Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan refused to step down. He was appointed as the caretaker government after the Constitutional Court of Thailand ordered the then Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down for abuse of power.
Ahmed Maitiq sworn-in as the new Prime Minister of Libya
On 26th May 2014, Ahmed Maitiq was sworn-in as the new Prime Minister of Libiya. Maitiq took oath of his office before Nuri Abu Sahmain, the President of the General National Congress, Libya's transitional Parliament. He won the confidence vote in the Parliament on 25th May 2014.
Ahmed Maitiq is 42 years old and became fifth Prime Minister of Libya since dictator Moammar Gadhafi was toppled and killed in a 2011 revolution.
