Ministry of AYUSH and CSIR inked Memorandum of Understanding
A MoU was inked between the Ministry of AYUSH and CSIR for co-operation in research and education in areas of traditional systems of medicine and its combination with modern science.
About the MoU
The Memorandum of Understanding was intended to bring both Ministry of Ayush and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under an umbrella thoughtful for seeking focused Research and Development efforts in the domain. Under the Memorandum of Understanding, both groups shall jointly endeavour to follow Research and Development covering- Fundamental investigation.
AYUSH specific diagnostic tools; connecting microbiome, gene expression and Prakriti; multi-ingredient
herbal formulations, including their standardization.
Discovering modern scientific methods for combination with traditional Indian Systems of Medicine.
Connecting disease signatures.
Development of international standardized disease-morbidity codes in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani,
Database on Medicinal plants, Foods, and many more.
Improving the partnership through joint Research and Development efforts ranging from fundamental
science to validation and afterwards product development, will meaningfully assist in the expansion of the tributions to the traditional medicines sector, worldwide.Salim Khan, Helen conferred with Deenanath Mangeshkar Award on - 24th April 2019
Popular scriptwriter Salim Khan, National award-winning movie-maker Madhur Bhandarkar and one of the finest dancing divas of yesteryears, Helen were honoured with the prestigious Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award at a ceremony in Mumbai on April 24, 2019. The awards were presented by Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh Chief Mohan Bhagwat and the function was supervised over by the Directorate General, CRPF, Vijay Kumar.

Lifetime Award: Presented to Actor, producer and screenwriter Salim Khan was honoured with the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Lifetime Award.
Special Award: Presented to movie-maker Madhur Bhandarkar the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Special Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Special Award: The yesteryear Actress Helen was honoured with Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Special Award.
Music and Art: The Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for music and art was honoured to classical dancer Sucheta Bhide-Chapekar.Malawi launches world’s first malaria vaccine on - 24th April 2019
African nation Malawi on April 24th, 2019 became the 1st to immunise children against Malaria via the
vaccine “RTS,S”- Mosquirix, under the World Health Organisation-coordinated Malaria vaccine pilot
program.
Malawi is also the 1st of 3 nations in Africa in which the vaccine RTS,S will be made available to children
up to two years of age; Ghana and Kenya will introduce the vaccine later.
The Malaria vaccine pilot program is a collective effort with ministries of health in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi and international associates like PATH and the vaccine inventor GlaxoSmithKline. The program intends to reach 360000 children every year across the 3 nations.
30 years in development of RTS,S vaccine
It took 30 years for the scientists to research the RTS,S vaccine that has demonstrated it can significantly diminish malaria in children.
During the clinical trials, the vaccine demonstrated to prevent about 4 in 10 malaria cases, including 3 in 10 cases of life-threatening severe malaria.
The vaccine is a complementary malaria control tool that will be added to the package of World Health
Organisation-recommended actions for malaria prevention, including the routine usage of insecticide-
treated bed nets, indoor spraying with insecticides, and the timely usage of malaria testing and treatment.India pushes African right to permanent - UNSC seat
India freshly stressed upon Africa's right to representation among the grades of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. The initiative intends to bring in a sense of urgency to the long-stalled reform process of the United Nations Security Council.
Important Highlights- The 55 African nations, who are the single largest group at the United Nations making up above a quarter of its membership, do not have a permanent member on the UN Security Council.
- Yet of the 13 United Nations peacekeeping operations mandated by the Council and supervised by it, 7 are in Africa.
- When the United Nations was formed at the end World War II, the permanent seats were assigned to the nations on the winning side, which included the United States, Soviet Union (currently held by Russia), Britain, France and China.
- Breaking the barrier would permit India's claim to a permanent seat on a reformed Council to also move forward.
- The high-level meeting was organized by Assembly President Maria Fernanda Espinosa formally to
celebrate the 1st International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace on April 24th, 2019.
New bird species found in - Indonesia
Zoologists from Trinity College with associates from Halu Oleo University and Operation Wallacea, have found 2 new bird species in the Wakatobi Archipelago of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Details of their discovery of the Wakatobi white-eye and the Wangi-wangi white-eye have been printed on April 24th, 2019 in the Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society.
Newly found birds
The 2 new white-eye species found by Trinity and Halu Oleo University; they are both discovered on the
Wakatobi Islands, just off mainland South-east Sulawesi. However, the 2 species could not be more
different.For some time, Wakatobi white-eye is under argument as researchers are looking for the answer how
species changed from the early 20th century to the present day.
Another bird, Wangi-wangi white-eye, remained unnoticed until the commencement of the 21st century when Professor Marples’ research group stayed the island from which it takes its name.
These white eyed birds are adaptable and can ate wide assortment of fruits, flowers and insects.
These birds have proficiency in making island colonies, which is why so many different white-eye
species have grown so rapidly, as different island populations become isolated and split off from their
source populations.
The Wakatobi white-eye is present throughout the Wakatobi Islands and divided from its mainland
relatives in the last 800000 years.
Wangi-wangi white-eye is a much older species present on only single tiny island, with its closest
relatives located above 3000 kilometres away.Indian Army opens vacancies for females in military police on - 25th April 2019
In a 1st, the Indian Army on April 25th, 2019 started online registration of females for employment as
soldiers into the military police.
The employment for ‘Women Military Police’ was proposed by the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat soon after he took over the position. The sanction for the creation of the post came recently by the Defence Ministry.
The initiative comes 3 months after the Government declared that females would be inducted into the force in the Personnel Below Officer Rank category in a graded manner to ultimately include 20% of total Corps of Military Police.
Importance
The appointment of females in Military Police is a mega step towards further empowering females and
enlightening their representation in the Indian armed forces.
Till now, females were allowable in select areas including medical, legal, educational, signals and engineering wings of the Army.
Procedure
Females who are interested in the employment can apply for this online on the formal website of Indian
Army. The application process will finish on June 8th, 2019.
To get nominated, the candidates will be needed to qualify the Common Entrance Exam trailed by the
Physical Endurance Test, besides fulfilling the eligibility criterion.
Through this employment initiative, 100 vacancies will be filled.Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019 presented to - Author Rana Dasgupta
The Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019 was presented to author Rana Dasgupta for his 2010 novel “Solo” which is a tale of separation the ultimate failure of material existence. It is the 2nd edition of the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize.
Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize intends to revive poetry & books that can change lives. An amount of $10000, a Tagore statue & a certificate for contribution to literature will be presented to the awardee.Indian Poets, novelists & Playwrights writing in formally recognized languages/dialects of the Indian subcontinent, including English.
Other Awardees
Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for social attainment was bestowed to Yohei Sasakawa,
the WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination, for ‘his incredible efforts to uproot leprosy &
great contribution to world peace’.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen was bestowed as a beacon of democracy”, the organisers added.
