    Indo-Malaysian Armies to conduct defence exercise HARIMAU SHAKTI 2018 from - 30th April 2018

    Indian and Malaysian armed forces will be directing the combined training exercise ‘HARIMAU SHAKTI 2018’ in the thick forests of Sengai Perdik, Hulu Langat, Malaysia from April 30th, 2018 to May 13th, 2018. 
    The workout will be a part of continuing Indo-Malaysian defence collaboration and will be focused at improving collaboration and harmonization between the armies of both the countries.
    Highlights of the HARIMAU SHAKTI 2018

    • As a part of the exercise, the two countries will be sharing the expertise of each other’s commissions to conduct counter insurrection operations in the forest terrain of Malaysia.
    • Indian commission will be embodied by 4 GRENADIERS, who have enrich operational experience in predictable and counter insurgency warfare as well. 
    • While, the Malaysian commission will be embodied by soldiers from 1 Royal Ranjer Regiment and the Royal Malay Regiment. 
    • The training will be a cross training followed by a field exercise of 7 days in the forests of Hulu Langat wherein both armed forces will combinedly train, strategy and perform a series of training actions.
    • It will not only deliver an excellent chance to both the armed forces to improve their operational skills but will also add to improve the strategic partnership among India and Malaysia.
    • This is for the 1st time wherein a combine training exercise involving Indian and Malaysian armies will be organised on Malaysian land.

    Government sent second notice to Facebook, Cambridge Analytica on - 25th April 2018


    The Union Government presented a 2nd set of notices to Facebook and Cambridge Analytica over the recent information breach, on April 25th, 2018. The organisations have been given the time limit of May 10th to reply to the extra queries.
    The government look forward extra responses after investigating discrepancies between the earlier responses given by the British data analytics company and the American social networking massive.
    The notice informed that given the submission by Facebook after its public apology, the onus now lay with Cambridge Analytica.
    Significance 
    By conveyance the notices, the government wants to send out a solid signal to international firms operating in IT and information platform that any information handling of Indians, in violation of law and privacy norms, will be observed seriously.
    Responses sought by the Indian government from CA

    • In its new notice to Cambridge Analytica, the government wanted a response on the kind of information that was gathered in India and the research instruments utilised to capture such information.
    • The government has sought reply on whether the firm had harvested any information through a 3rd-party app and whether with or without subscriber consent.
    • It has also looked forward information on entities operating under the parasol of Cambridge Analytica and particulars of directors.
    • Further, the government has interrogated the analytics organisation on the non-disclosure pacts inked by the organisation with its connections and clients for Indian assignments and has questioned it to share the templates that were utilised in inking such contracts.

    Indu Malhotra, first senior woman advocate to become SC Judge  on - 27th April 2018

    In a 1st, senior advocate Indu Malhotra is going to make a start for the 1st woman lawyer to be selected as Supreme Court Judge. The Union Law Ministry has allegedly cleared her name for the post. With the decision, Indu Malhotra will be the 1st woman lawyer to be directly nominated from the Bar as a Judge in the Supreme Court. She is believed to be sworn into the new post on April 27th, 2018. 
    Important Highlights

    • After Independence, only 6 women judges have been selected to the Apex Court.
    • Actually, in the 1st 39 years of the Supreme Court, no woman judge was appointed to it.  
    • In 1989, Justice Fathima Beevi was nominated as the 1st woman judge of the Supreme Court.
    • The other woman judges designated to the apex court in succeeding years consists of Justice Sujatha Manohar, Justice Ruma Pal, Justice Gyan Sudha Misra and Justice Ranjana Desai.
    • Currently, the Supreme Court has only single woman Judge- Justice R Banumathi.

    • Indu Malhotra is a senior counsel practicing in the Supreme Court of India for the last thirty years.
    • In 2007, Indu Malhotra had become the only 2nd woman to be nominated as a senior advocate by the supreme court, 3 decades after Leila Seth achieved the feat. 
    • Indu Malhotra, has given the impression in various domestic and global commercial arbitrations.
    • In December 2016, she was selected as a member of the High-Level Committee in the Ministry of Law and Justice by the Union Government to reassess Institutionalization of Arbitration Mechanism in India.
    • She was also selected Amicus Curiae by various benches of the Supreme Court in various issues. Freshly, she was selected as an amicus for the restoration of Jaipur as a heritage city.
