    Who is re-elected as PM of Tibetan Government-in-exile - Lobsang Sangey

    Lobsang Sangey has been re-elected by the Tibetan Government as the Prime Minister for a second consecutive term. 

    The election result was declared by the Tibetan election officials in the northern Indian town of Dharmsala which is the headquarters of the government-in-exile. Sangey secured about 58 percent of the 58,740 votes cast. 

    Sangey defeated his only rival Penpa Tsering, who is Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament by 9,012 votes.

    •This 2016 general election was the second election since the Dalai Lama had stepped down as head of the government-in-exile in 2011 to focus on his role as the Tibetans’ spiritual leader. 

    •Tibetans who are living in exile in 40 countries had casted their votes for this election. Sangey was born in Darjeeling, West Bengal. He had completed his studies in Delhi, before going for higher education in the US. 

    Union Government makes what compulsory in all mobiles - Panic Button, GPS

    From January 1, 2017 and 2018 respectively, The Union Government has made mandatory for mobile manufacturers to add in-built panic button and global positioning system (GPS) in all In this regard, Department of Telecommunications has notified the Panic Button and Global Positioning System in Mobile Phone Handsets Rules, 2016 under section 10 of the Indian Wireless Telegraph Act, 1933.

    Must Know – 

    •From January 1, 2017 all phones will have the facility of panic button that lets users instantly alert the emergency services. 

    •Smart phones will this feature configured to three times short pressing of the on-off button. In case of a feature phone, a long press on either the 5 or 9 button will make panic call.

    Fire destroyed Delhi's National Museum of - Natural History

    On 26 April 2016, a massive fire destroyed the National Museum of Natural History located in New Delhi. However, the cause of fire is still unknown though the fire spread because of museum specimens and the wood work holding them.

    Although, because of an ongoing renovation the building was relatively empty, and was evacuated shortly before first responders arrived. However, many of the museum’s exhibits have suffered irreparable damage.

    Know About National Museum of Natural History – 

    •The National Museum of Natural History or NMNH, which was established in 1972 in New Delhi was one of two museums focusing on nature in India.

    •This National Museum functioned under the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Government of India.

    •The museum remained in existence until 26 April 2016, when a fire gutted the museum building and destroyed the entire collection.

    Who suggests fine/jail for Celebrities of Misleading Ads - Parliament Panel

    On 26 April 2016, Parliamentary Standing Committee’s report on the Consumer Protection Bill 2015 was tabled in Parliament. 

    The committee headed by Telugu Desam Party MP J C Divakar Reddy advocated that the Department of Consumer Affairs should be empowered to make laws to regulate growing sectors of e-commerce, direct selling and multi-level marketing where consumer complaints are on the rise. He also in its report recommended holding celebrities accountable for misleading advertisements and stringent provisions including jail term up to five years and penalty up to 50 lakh rupees.

    What the panel on Consumer Affairs said in its report?

    The committee strongly feels that misrepresentation of a product especially of food product should be taken very seriously considering the influence of celebrities and high networth individuals and companies. The existing laws are not deterrent enough to discourage manufacturers or publishers from using such personalities for misleading ads.

    According to Nomura, which country may surpass China in attracting FDI - India

    In the last week of April 2016, Nomura which is the Japanese financial services firm declared that India may surpass China in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), in terms of percentage of its GDP.

    The firm also announced that the gap in inflows between the two nations has been narrowing due to ongoing reforms in India.

    What Nomura said in a research report – 

    •We believe FDI inflows to India (as a percentage of GDP) can surpass those into China in 2016, as India already has large investment commitments from MNCs in sectors like electronics, solar energy, auto, defence and railways.

    •This report also added, The trend of rising inflows to India and moderating inflows to China are likely driven by a mix of pull and push factors like divergent growth outlooks, ongoing FDI liberalisation and economic reforms in India, compared to rising labour costs in China.

    In which state of India Heart of Asia conference begins - New Delhi

    On 26 April 2016, The Heart of Asia (HoA) conference began in New Delhi.

    This HoA conference was attended by officials of a number of countries including Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry.

    Last year, on 9 December 2015 Pakistan hosted the fifth Heart of Asia Ministerial Conference in Islamabad. 

    Know About Heart of Asia – 

    •To devise a sustained, incremental approach to implementation of the Confidence Building Measures (CBM) in Afghanistan. The officials are set to deliberate on them during the conference.

    •The main objective of the conference is to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan and to speed up its reconstruction with a focus on enhancing investment and connectivity to the country.

    Who became first non-cricketer to become a member of CCI's Legend Club - Nandu Natekar

    In April 2016, for the first time a badminton player Nandu Natekar became the first non-Cricketer to be inducted into the Legends Club founded by the late Cricket Club of India (CCI) president Raj Singh Dungarpur.

    Nandu Natekar was inducted into the club along with 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, who also became the sixth cricketer to be inducted in the club.

    Nandu and Kapil were the two, inducted into the Club’s legend group after consultation with the Cricket Club of India (CCI) president, Kekoo Nicholson.

    Know About Nandu Natekar  - 

    •Nandu Natekar who is a former Indian badminton national champion has won over 100 national and international titles for India in a career spanning 15 years.

    •In 1956, He was the first Indian to win a title abroad. Natekar is a director of Natekar Sports and Fitness (NSF).

    •Natekar also won the Men's Doubles National Championship a total of six times, Men's Singles National Championship a total of six times, and Mixed Doubles National Championship a total of five times.
