Name of former Cuban President who passed away - Fidel Castro

On 25th November 2016, Former Cuban President Fidel Castro passed away at the age of 90. He was considered a revolutionary leader of Cuba. He served Cuba as President from 1976 to 2008.

He introduced many reforms in Cuba in economy, health, press etc. He also lead Non-Aligned Movement from 1979 - 1983 that helped Cuba to establish in World's forums.

He was refered as among most iconic personalities of 20th century by PM Narendra Modi as he extended condolences.

Mary Kom will be honoured with - Legends Award

Among Important Awards, Olympic bronze-medal winning boxer MC Mary Kom will be receiving Legends Award on 20th December 2016 from International Boxing Association (AIBA). Important to mention here that on 20th December it will be 70th anniversary of AIBA.

MC Mary Kom is Rajya Sabha MP as she was nominated by President Pranab Mukherjee in April 2016.

She is five-time World Amateur Boxing champion and she won bronze medal in 2012 Olympics in 51kg category.

She has been honoured by many awards viz. Padma Bhushan, Arjuna Award, Padma Shree Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna are to name a few.

Safeguard duty imposed on certain - Steel imports

On 24th November 2016, Union Government imposed safeguard duty on import of certain steel products which includes hot-rolled flat sheets and plates (excluding hot-rolled flat products in coil form) of alloy or non-alloy steel.

Effective duty rate will be calculated after deducting the value of the goods and anti-dumping duty will become payable when the import price is below USD 504 per tonnes on CIF (cost insurance freight) basis.

This duty has been imposed to help domestic industry.
