On 26 November National Milk Day observed across India
26th November will be celebrated as National Milk Day as decided by Indian dairy sector. This was decided on 26th November 2014 to mark the 93rd birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien. Dr. Verghese Kurien is also known as Father of White Revolution. Milkman of India Dr. Verghese Kurien was the architect of Operation Flood, the world's biggest agricultural development programme.
Sania Mirza named as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia
On 25th November 2014, Indian tennis superstar Sania Mirza was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia, thus she became the first South Asian woman to be appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador.
Other than Sania Mirza other Goodwill Ambassadors are British actor Emma Watson, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman, HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand and Indian actor Farhan Akhtar.
Swachh Bharat Kosh Operational Guidelines announced by Union Government
On 25th November 2014, Union Government announced Swachh Bharat Kosh Operational Guidelines 2014 which will come into force with immediate effect. This is aimed to achieve the objective of cleanliness across India and its funds will be utilised to build toilets in schools of urban and rural areas.
Swachh Bharat Kosh would be administered by a Governing Council which will be chaired by Secretary, Department of Expenditure.
26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack anniversary remembered across the country
On 26th November 2014, India remembered sixth anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack. Prime Minister of India who was there in SARRC Summit also mentioned it during his speech. He urged SARRC countries to work together to combat terrorism.
166 people died and 304 were injured in this attack.
Kotak Mahindra 1st bank to fully own an insurance business
Among the Important Financial Current Affairs, On 25th November 2014, Kotak Mahindra Bank became first bank in India to fully own an insurance business.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gave permission to set up a wholly-owned non-life insurance company called Kotak General Insurance.
Kotak General Insurance will be the 29th non-life company in the country and the CEO of the new entity will be Mahesh Balasubramanian.
