    Name the initiative launched by Union Government to provide healthcare facilities in rural areas - Sehat

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 25th August 2015, a telemedicine initiative 'Sehat' in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals to provide healthcare facilities in rural areas was launched by the Union government.

    Under this scheme people will be able to order generic drugs and consult doctors through video link. The tele-consultation services will be delivered with support from Apollo and Medanta Hospitals in some areas via Common Service Centres (CSCs).

    The sale of generic drugs through association with Health Ministry by setting up Jan Aushadhi Stores will be promoted by the CSC's and they will also provide diagnostic services.

    Two MoUs to deepen bilateral cooperation ws signed between - India and Egypt

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 24th August 2015, two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) to enhance bilateral cooperation was signed by India and Egypt during the visit of External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to Egypt.

    The MoU's that were signed are :

    • MoU on Cooperation in the field of Tourism
    • MoU on scientific and technical Cooperation

    MoU to develop villages of Vijayawada parliamentary constituency has been signed by - AP Government and Tata Trust S

    On 24th August 2015, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop 264 villages of the Vijayawada parliamentary constituency has been signed by Andhra Pradesh Government and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.

    The chairman of the Tata trust Ratan Tata and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inked the MoU's in Vijaywada.

    Highlights of the MoU

    • Development of villages will be taken up including self employment for the youth, health, drinking water and education.
    • Under this initiative, about 2.5 lakh households of the constituency will be benefitted.
    • Special prominence will be given for the development of Self Help Groups and bamboo cultivation and marketing.

    Which museums hs been inaugrated by Indian Army - Laungewala War Memorial and Jaisalmer War Museum

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 24th August 2015, ‘Jaisalmer War Museum’ established in the Military Station of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan was inaugurated by Indian Army which is located 10 km short of Jaisalmer on the Jaisalmer - Jodhpur Highway. To mark the Golden Jubilee Commemoration Year of 1965 Indo Pak War, the museum was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Ashok Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief of Southern Command.

    Jaisalmer War Museum

    • The museum consists of two large Information Display Halls, an Audio Visual Room and a souvenir shop.
    • A large number of captured war trophies and own vintage equipment on display to include tanks, guns and military vehicles are present.
    • A Hunter aircraft which was used during the Battle for Laungewala in 1971 Indo Pak War has been presented by the the Indian Air Force for the museum.

    Apart from this, a War Memorial was constructed and inaugurated at the very site where the Pakistani offensive was blunted is also inaugrated to honour Battle of Laungewala that was fought on 4th December and 5th December 1971.

    It has a state of art audio visual theatre for screening the movies on the Battle of Laungewala. The memorial is open seven days a week and the entry is free for visitors.

    Second Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit held in - Jaipur

    On 21st August 2015, The Second Forum for India-Pacific Island Cooperation Summit was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

    Heads of states and governments and key officials of the 14 pacific island nations of the group along with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the summit.

    Common areas of cooperation were discussed by the leaders during the summit including climate change, UN reforms, mining, IT, health care, fishing, marine resources exploration, oil and natural gas, marine research and space collaboration.

    • FPIC was first concepualised in November 2014 during the visit of Narendra Modi to Fiji to deepen India’s external relations with pacific island nations.
    • In the third week of November 2014, the first summit was held in Fiji’s capital Suva.
    • Pacific island countries in the group apart from India are: Micronesia, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea.

    Arogya Rajasthan campaign was approved by - Rajasthan Government

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 25th August 2015, the launch of Arogya Rajasthan campaign was approved by Rajasthan State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje which is scheduled to be held from December 2015 to March 2016.

    The campaign will assist in collection and compilation of health data of the rural population in the state.The residents of the rural areas would be issued health cards based on spot diagnoses which will be used for further treatment and follow-up of patients.

    A drive will be carried out between 15th September and 31st October 2015, to collect health information of citizens to build an online datatbase.

    Navodaya Schools will be included in - BRIDGE programme of Australia

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 24th August 2015, Australia agreed to include Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) into the programme that is run by Australian Schools in collaboration with Indian Schools.

    The decision was made during the 3rd Australia-India Education Council (AIEC) meeting held in New Delhi chaired by the Education Minister of both the nations.

    The project which is currently restricted to private schools, will connect Australian and Indian schools and focus on building teacher capability across key learning areas including information and communication technologies, intercultural understanding, values and inclusive education, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

    Census 2011 on Population by Religious Communities has been released by - RGI

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 25th August 2015, the data on Census 2011 on Population by Religious Communities was released by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (RGI). The distribution is among the total population by six major religious communities namely, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain besides Other Religions and Persuasions and Religion not stated.

    Population by Religious Communities based on Census 2011:

    • Hindu 96.63 crores (79.8%)
    • Muslim 17.22 crores (14.2%)
    • Christian 2.78 crores (2.3%)
    • Sikh 2.08 crores (1.7%)
    • Buddhist 0.84 crores (0.7%)
    • Jain 0.45 crores (0.4%)
    • Other Religions & Persuasions 0.79 crores (0.7%)
    • Religion Not Stated 0.29 crores (0.2%)

    Proportion

    A decreent of 0.7 percentage point was seen in the proportion of Hindu population to total population in 2011 while a decrement of 0.2 PP was seen in the proportion of Sikh population and the Buddhist population decreased by 0.1 PP during 2001-2011.

    An increment of 0.8PP was noticed int the proportion of Muslim population to total population. There has been no noticeable change in the proportion of Christians and Jains.

    Agreement to launch Annapurna Bhandar Yojana was signed by - Rajasthan Government and FCEL

    On 20th August 2015, Rajasthan State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (RSFCSC) and Kishore Biyani-led Future Consumer Enterprise Ltd (FCEL) signed an agreement to launch the Annapurna Bhandar Yojna, which is a first-of-its kind in India Public Private Distribution Scheme.

    The motive of the agreement is to provide better quality multi-brand consumer goods at competitive prices to the public of the state through Fair Price Shops (FPS).

    This scheme was launched through one shop at Udaipur by supplying multi-brand daily consumption products and five shops in Jaipur city.

    Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje said this scheme will become India’s biggest entrepreneurship drive with five thousand fair price shop dealers turning into entrepreneurs with Annapurna Bhandars.

    PayU India tied-up with - RedBus

    On 25th August 2015, PayU India tied-up with online bus ticketing platform redBus to offer cash-back discounts to customers who use its wallet PayU Money to buy tickets.

    Today, around 50% of bookings on redBus are through the PayU Wallet. This aim of this tie-up is to increase the wallet customers from the current 5 million users to 20 million by the end of 2015.

    School Sports Promotion Foundation has been launched by - SAI

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 24th August 2015, the School Sports Promotion Foundation with an objective to tackle the sporting talent at the school level was launched by The Sports Authority of India (SAI).

    Functions of School Sports Promotion Foundation

    • Sports tournaments will be organized across the country to identify talent and train it and take them through the city, district, state, zonal and national level of competitive sport by the SAI.
    • Sports coaching will pe provided to those talented youth who are recognized through these tournaments at all levels.
    • In the first year of its operations, School Sports Promotion Foundation will roll out Football and Cricket.
    • Other sports like Tennis, Basketball and Athletics will be introduced in the second year and rural, sub-urban elementary schools with a strong focus on rural sports would be included in the programme.

    Who is appointed as CEO of HarperCollins India - Ananth Padmanabhan

    Among the important appointments, On 25th August 2015, Ananth Padmanabhan was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HarperCollins India. He has replaced P M Sukumar.

    He will have the overall responsibility for all divisions of the business and will report to Charlie Redmayne, CEO of HarperCollins UK. While Krishna Naroor will have the responsibility for running the day to day Collins India education business.

    Currently, Padmanabhan is working as a Senior Vice President of Sales at Penguin Random House having a experience of 20 years in the publishing sector.

    Who is assumed charge as Director General of CSIR - Girish Sahni

    Among the important appointments, On 26th August 2015, Girish Sahni assumed charge as the Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He will also serve as Secretary, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Union Ministry of Science & Technology.

    Earlier, Sahni had been the Director of CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), Chandigarh.
