The World Malaria Day was celebrated on April 25th, 2019 worldwide to lime-light the necessity for
continued investment and sustained political commitment towards malaria prevention and control.
As per to World Health Organisation’s latest World Malaria Report, no noteworthy efforts were made in dropping malaria cases during 2015 - 2017. The projected number of malaria deaths in 2017 stood at
435000, no alteration over the previous year.
The theme of the World Malaria Day 2019 was ‘Zero malaria starts with me’. On the eve of the World
Malaria Day 2019, the World Health Organisation joined the “RBM Associateship to End Malaria”, the
African Union Commission and other partner groups in promoting the theme.
The 2019 theme intends to keep malaria high on the political agenda, mobilise additional resources, and
empower communities to take ownership of malaria prevention and care.
World Malaria Day
The World Malaria Day is an international celebration observed every year on 25th April and recognises global efforts to control malaria.
It is 1 of 8 formal global public health campaigns presently marked by the World Health Organisation.
The day was recognized in May 2007 by the 60th session of the World Health Assembly to deliver
education and understanding of malaria and spread news on year-long intensified execution of national malaria-control policies.
