ECI to host international conference on making elections inclusive & accessible on - 25th January 2019
The Election Commission of India- ECI will be holding an International Conference on Making Elections Inclusive & Accessible on January 24th, 2019, in consonance with the 9th “National Voters’ Day” which will be organised on January 25th, 2019.
Important Highlights- The International conference is being held with the motive of sharing the experience of different EMB’s, International institutions & specialists with concern to analysis of barriers, policy interventions, policies, programs, good practices & technological innovation for inclusive & accessible election.
- The conference will have 2 sessions in which representatives from the EMBs & International Groups will take part & share their experiences, best practices & initiatives focused at electoral engagement, enrolment & active participation in inclusive & accessible voting practises in various nations.
- The international representatives will also witness the national voters’ day merriments in New Delhi besides visiting the new campus of the India International Institute of Democracy & Election Management at Dwarka in New Delhi.
- The January 2019 concerns of Election Commission of India’s quarterly magazine ‘Voice International’ will also be out during the conference, which will carry articles on the theme of ‘Making polling stations accessible & voter-friendly’.
World Integrated Medicine Forum held to advance global cooperation in Homoeopathy on - 23rd January 2019
The World Integrated Medicine Forum on the directive of Homoeopathic Medicinal Products with the theme “Advancing Global Collaboration” was initiated by Sripad Naik, Union Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of AYUSH on January 23rd, 2019.
The 3-day forum is being planned by Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, with the help of Ministry of AYUSH, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Convention of the United States & European Coalition on Homeopathic & Anthroposophic Medicinal Products, Pharmacopoeia Commission of Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy & Central Drugs Standard Control Organization.
Crucial Highlights- The forum would witness participation from important public & private sector shareholders, including senates from World Health Organisation & drug regulatory authorities, pharmacopoeia experts & industrialists from different nations worldwide.
- It would also get participation from veterinary experts and the regulators & drug controllers of various states of India.
- The forum debates will primarily explore the unities and differences in regulatory affairs among numerous nations, discuss strategic regulatory & industry perspectives & possible situations in advancing international partnership.
- It would also emphasis on the ways to further improve pharmaceutical quality standards, cautious on integrating traditional medicine systems in primary healthcare, public health & bring out the perspectives on forming suitable requirements on various dimensions of drug supports including veterinary medicine.
ISRO launched Kalamsat, Microsat-R satellites on PSLV-C44 rocket on - 24th January 2019
The Indian Space Research Organisation- ISRO released a students' satellite Kalamsat & an imaging satellite Microsat-R from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh on January 24th, 2019, marking its 1st launch in 2019.
The national space agency's rocket, PSLV-C44 took the satellites into the orbit. Afterward about 14 minutes into the flight, the rocket ejected the 700 kilograms Microsat R satellite at an altitude of about 277 kilometres.
Kalamsat Satellite- The Kalamsat is a 10cm cube Nano-satellite weighing approximately 1.2 kilograms & has a life span of about 2 months.
- Kalamsat, arranged by a student & Chennai-based Space Kidz India, is a small satellite with dimensions 10 x 10 x 10 cm & is meant for HAM radio services.
- It has been settled by Space Kidz India & their team including Rifath Sharook, Srimathy Kesan, among others.
- The Kalamsat satellite was the 1st to utilise 4th stage PS4 of the launch vehicle PSLV-C44 as an orbital platform.
- The 4th stage moved to higher circular orbit so as to start an orbital platform for carrying out experiments.
Configuration of PSLV-C44 rocket - The Polar Satellite Launching Vehicle is a 4-stage engine expendable rocket with alternating solid & liquid fuel.
- One of the specialisms of the release was the configuration of the rocket. Indian Space Research Organisation utilised the aluminium tank for the 1st time in the 4th stage of the launch of PSLV-C44.
- In its regular configuration, with 6 strap-on motors hugging the its 1st stage. However, for the launch of Kalamsat & Microsat-R satellites, the rocket accepted only 2 strap-on motors by the sides of the 1st fuel stage at the bottom.
- This was the 1st time the launch vehicle is manufactured in this configuration known as PSLV-DL.
- This will decrease the weight & upsurge the mass in the 4-stage engine expendable rocket with alternating solid & liquid fuel.
National Voters Day 2019 celebrated on - 25th January 2019
India is celebrating 9th ‘National Voters Day’ on 25th January 2019 for improved participation of
residents in the electoral process. The main initiative of celebrating ‘National Voters Day’ is to
encourage, simplify & maximize the enrolment, especially for the fresh voters.
Genesis of the National Voters Day
According to the suggestion mooted by the Ministry of Law & Justice, the Union Cabinet led by then PM sanctioned the suggestion to rejoice ‘National Voters Day’ on 25th January. The National Voters Day was 1st renowned on 25th January 2011.
January 25th is observed as the ‘National Voter’s Day’ vowing to the statistic that it was on this day the
Election Commission of India was established on 25th January 1950.
National Voters Day 2019- India would be perceiving the parliamentary elections in 2019, in order to make sure a wide-ranging
election, process the subject of the ‘National Voters Day’ is No Voter to be Left Behind. - President Ram Nath Kovind would be the Chief Guest at the core function being held by Election
Commission in New Delhi. The programme is also decorated by Chief Election Commissioners & senior officers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Russia &Sri Lanka.
