Punjab Government made sacrilege of religious text punishable with life imprisonment on - 21st August 2018
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh announced that the state cabinet has approved amendments to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to make sacrilege of all religious text punishable with life imprisonment on 21st August, 2018.
The Cabinet approved the Code of Criminal Procedure (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2018, and the Indian Penal Code (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2018. The amended bills will going to be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session.
Chandrayaan-I data confirmed presence of ice on Moon on - 21st August 2018
The NASA scientists, using data from the Chandrayaan-I spacecraft, on 21st August 2018 confirmed that there are frozen water deposits in the darkest and coolest parts of Moon’s Polar Regions. They published these findings were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the Chandrayaan-I spacecraft in 2008.
Chhattisgarh to rename Naya Raipur as Atal Nagar by - Chhattisgarh state government
The state government of Chhattisgarh has decided to rename the state’s new capital city Naya Raipur as Atal Nagar in the memory of former prime minister Late Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The decision was taken during the state’s cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Raman Singh on 21st August, 2018.
Vajpayee passed away at the age of 93 on 16th August in New Delhi following a prolonged illness.
His last rites ceremony was held with full state honours at Smriti Sthal in the national capital on 17th August.
The ceremony was attended by top dignitaries including Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, Indian President, Vice-President, and Governors of several states and many foreign dignitaries including the King of Bhutan and former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai.New Health Warnings on Tobacco Products Packs notified by - Ministry of Health
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare notified new sets of specified health warnings for all tobacco product packs on 20th August 2018. The new set of health warnings was notified through changes in the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labeling) Rules, 2008.
The Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labeling) Second Amendment Rules, 2018 are applicable from 1st September 2018.All packs of tobacco products will now be having ‘Tobacco Causes Cancer’ and ‘Tobacco Causes Painful Death’ warnings written in white color in a red background. The words ‘Quit Today Call 1800-11-2356’ will also be inscribed in white on a black background along with the pictorial warning coming from September 2018 onwards.
The quit line number 1800-11-2356 is online on-call assistance facility which is launched for those people who seek support to quit tobacco products.
