Which state launches DNA Index System to tackle crime - Andhra Pradesh

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 20th August 2016, Andhra Pradesh finally launched the DNA Index System (DIS) for DNA (Deoxyribonucleac acid) profiling of criminals. 

Here, the system uses the latest DNA technology tool, which is known as RapidHIT DNA System, developed by IntegenX of United States.

After this launch, Andhra Pradesh became the first state in the country to do so. 

Do You Know – 

• Here, the DNA Index System (DIS) allows generation of DNA profiles from live samples like buccal swabs, saliva and blood stains etc.

• It also creates DNA profiles within 90 to 120 minutes compared to currently available technologies which take at least two days or more.

Which tennis player becomes World No 1 in ATP Women’s Doubles Tennis Rankings - Sania Mirza

Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 22nd August 2016 India’s star tennis player Sania Mirza was topped the ATP Women’s Doubles Tennis rankings.

However, she topped this list after teaming up with new partner, Barbora Strycova of Czech Republic.

Here, the new ranking also follows the victory of the pair in the Cincinnati final. 

To win this title, the Sania-Barbora duo defeated Martina Hingis and Coco Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-4.

Which state becomes first state to sign MoU with Centre, AAI to develop 10 airports under RCS – Maharashtra

Among Important National Current Affairs, Maharashtra Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop 10 airports as part of the Centre’s Regional Connectivity Scheme. 

Here, the MoU was signed in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. 

After this, Maharashtra also became the first state in the country to formally to provide the concessions required from the State Governments in the Regional Connectivity Scheme.

New World Wealth Report 2016 released: India stood at which position - 7th position 

Among Important International Current Affairs, in August 2016 only the New World Wealth finally released the report titled The W10: The 10 wealthiest countries in the world. 

As per the rankings in this report, India got the 7th position in the world with a total individual wealth of 5.6 trillion US dollars.

Whereas, The United States topped the list with total individual wealth held at 48900 billion US dollars. 

However, the study ranked the wealthiest countries in the world as of June 2016 in terms of total individual wealth held.

Which two states ink pact for 3 irrigation projects - Maharashtra, Telangana

Among Important National Current Affairs, two large states Maharashtra and Telangana have finally signed agreement for three irrigation projects to be constructed on Godavari, Pranahita and Painganga rivers. 

However, these agreements were signed in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

• Under this agreement, the two States would take up Tummidi Hatti, Medigadda and Chanaka-Korata irrigation projects on Godavari River and its tributaries also.

Reliance Cement becomes subsidiary of - Birla Corporation Limited

On 22nd August 2016, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd (RInfra) declared that it completed 100 percent sale of Reliance Cement Company Private Limited (RCCPL) to Birla Corporation Limited.

While RInfra is an entity of the Anil Ambani-headed Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (Reliance ADAG), Birla Corp is the flagship Company of the M P Birla Group.
