Name the temple destroyed by ISIS militants - Palmyra's temple of Baalshamin
On 23rd August 2015, Palmyra's ancient temple of Baalshamin in Syria was destroyed by Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants.
As per the reports, the militant group placed a large quantity of explosives in the temple of Baalshamin and then blew it up. The explosion caused much damage to the temple.
2015 Ashes Test series was won by - England
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 23rd August 2015, 2015 Ashes Test series was won by England cricket team against Australia.
The man of the series award was jointly shared by Joe Root of England and Chris Rogers of Australia.

1st ever Hydro-power plant at Chilla was commisioned by - DJB
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 23rd August 2015, the first ever Hydro-power plant in the city was commisioned by Delhi Jal Board (DJB). The power plant set up at Chilla will be run through the Hydraulic Turbine propelled by treated effluents coming out of a Sewerage Treatment Plant.
An official release said that the treated effluents will fall through the height of 4.8m and create pressure and velocity that will propel rotation of the turbine thereby generating power. It is a Pilot Project which has been set up free of cost and will produce 20000 KWH of electricity per year.
It is also termed as pollution free technology as no fossil fuel is being used in the power generation.
Bandhan Financial Services started operations as Scheduled Commercial Bank
On 23rd August 2015, Bandhan Financial Services, a Micro Financial Institution (MFI), started operations as a Scheduled Commercial Bank (SCB). Subsequently, it will be called as Bandhan Bank.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Kolkata inaugrated the banking services. Now, Bandhan has became the first micro finance company to start operations as a full-fledged commercial bank in the country and also the first commercial bank from Eastern India to get RBI clearance since independence.

In 2001, Bandhan started as a Non Banking Finance Company and focused on the lower seam of the especially unorganized sector workers.
The bank started operations with 501 branches in 24 states across the country with 1.43 crore accounts on its inaugral day.
Who has won Cincinnati Masters Women's Singles title for second time - Serena Williams
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 23rd August 2015, the Cincinnati Masters Women's Singles title was won by World number one ranking Serena Williams.
Earlier she had won this title in the year 2014. In the Women's category, the title is considered only next to the four Grand slam titles.
Serena will take part in the upcoming US Open in September 2015 and in early 2015 she had won all the three Grand Slam titles in Australia, France and the UK.

It is the oldest tennis tournament in the United States played in its original city and was initiated on 18th September 1899. After the U.S. Open, this tournament is the second largest summer tennis event in the U.S.
Cincinnati Masters Men’s Singles tennis title was won by - Roger Federer
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 23rd August 2015, Roger Federer won the Cincinnati Masters Men’s Singles title. He has won this title for record seventh time.
Earlier he had won in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015. On the ATP World Tour, the title is considered as one of nine elite Masters 1000 tournaments.
Who has won 100 meter title at 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing - Usain Bolt
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 23rd August 2015, the 100 meter title at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics held at Beijing in China was won by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
With this win, the select league of Carl Lewis and Maurice Greene who won the title for three times was joined by Bolt.
About Usain Bolt

Indian Air Force MiG-21 Bison Aircraft crashed in - Kashmir
On 24 August 2015, Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-21 (Bison) aircraft crashed at Budgam in Jammu & Kashmir and the pilot managed to eject safely from the aircraft.
The single seater MIG -21 aircraft was on a routine training sortie and had taken off from Srinagar airfield. To investigate the cause of the accident a Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been ordered.
