South Indian Bank got new MD and CEO with appointment of V.G. Mathew
Among the important Banking Current Affairs, On 22nd September 2014, Appointment of V.G. Mathew as MD and CEO of South Indian Bank Ltd was approved by RBI.
Starting from 1st October 2014, V.G. Mathew will be serving as this post till three years. He will be succeeding V.A. Joseph who is going to retire.
V. G. Mathew was serving The South Indian Bank Ltd since 2nd January 2014 as an Executive Vice President.
Earlier he was with State Bank of India as Chief General Manager of Corporate Accounts Group.
CBI arrested Ex-Odisha AG Ashok Mohanty in connection of chit fund scam
On 22nd September 2014, former Advocate General of Odisha Ashok Mohanty was arrested by CBI from Cuttack, Odisha in connection with multi-crore chit fund scam.
CBI is investigating the chit fund scam on the direction of the Supreme Court.
Ashok Mohanty was serving as Advocate General of Odisha since 2009. His resignation was accepted by state govt on 12th September 2014.
Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar named as new ISI chief
On 22nd September 2014, Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) got its new chief as Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar. He will be replacing Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam who will be retiring in October 2014.
Reliance Jio signed agreement with Indus Towers
On 22nd September 2014, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited signed a Master Services Agreement (MSA) with Indus Towers for the purpose of sharing of tower infrastructure.
With this tie up Reliance Jio will have access to over 288000 towers countrywide.
Age limit for direct recruitment extended to 40 years by AP Govt
On 23rd September 2014, AP Government announced to increase the upper age limit for direct recruitment in government services to 40 years. It was 34 years earlier.
This order will be applicable from 30th October 2016.
Few services like police, excise, fire, prisons and forest departments will not be included in this order.
Hardeep Singh Puri, an Ex-Ambassador of India to UN appointed as Secretary General of ICM
Among the major appointments, On 23rd September 2014, former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nation Hardeep Singh Puri was appointed as Secretary General of Independent Commission on Multilateralism (ICM).
This commission was launched by International Peace Institute (IPI) with a purpose to identifying policy proposals to enhance the multilateral system's ability to respond to evolving global challenges.
Chairperson of ICM will be Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Foreign Minister of Norway Borge Brende and Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird will be co-Chairpersons.
ICM will a be two years programme and will be funded by Norway and Canada Govt's.
