International Day of Forests celebrated with slogan ‘Forests and Education’ on - 21st March 2019
The International Day of Forests was celebrated on March 21st, 2019 with the slogan of “Forests and Education: Learn to Love Forests”. The day is celebrated every year to spread awareness on how sustainably managed forests deliver a wide collection of contributions in this area. Present year’s slogan intends to encourage education to learn to love forests. It underscores the significance of education at all levels in attaining sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation, as healthy forests mean healthy, resilient communities and affluent economies.
Main Highlights- The International Day of Forests perceives and spreads awareness of the significance of all types of forests.
- The day is celebrated yearly to spread awareness about the significance of forests and their vital role in poverty eradication, environmental sustainability and food security.
- Each year on this day, nations are encouraged to undertake local, national and international hard work to organise activities involving forests and trees, including tree planting campaigns.
- The day’s slogan for every year is selected by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, whose members settled in 2017 that the day’s slogan would deliver an opportunity to lime-light specific forest contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by considering topics of the yearly sessions of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
Trump recognises Golan Heights as Israeli territory on - 21st March 2019
The US President, Donald Trump on March 21st, 2019 announced that the United States will consider
Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is a borderline land which Israel captured from Syria in 1967. This resolution of the United States is anticipated to give a political boost to PM Netanyahu a month before his re-election campaign.
The disputed Golan Heights- The Golan Heights is an attractive 1800 sq. km plateau beside the Sea of Galilee that borders Israel,
Leprohibitionon, Jordan and Syria. - Israel detained much of the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967, which was a 6 Days War and then effectively captured it in 1981, an initiative that was never recognised by the international community.
- Earlier, there have been attempts to bring Israel and Syria and for discussions; however, all those
attempts were failed. - There are above 30 Israeli settlements in the Golan housing an appraised 20000 people.
- These Israelis live and with few 20000 Syrians, mostly the Druze Arabs who did not flee when the Golan was seized.
- Right now, the UN peacekeeping forces are positioned in Golan. Their mandate perishes in June 2019.
World Water Day 2019 celebrated on - 22nd March 2019
World Water Day 2019 was celebrated on 22nd March with the slogan “Leaving no one behind”. The
World Water Day 2019 inspires people to focus towards downgraded groups as these are often
overlooked & categorized against when they try to access safe water.
The slogan “Leaving no one behind” underlines the slogan of “water for all” which means to ensure all
including elderly, disabled, marginalized & poor people who should get access to clean drinking water & appropriate sanitation, as treasured under Sustainable Development Goals.
World Water Day
World Water Day aims to draw attention to the implication of freshwater & advocates for the
sustainable management of freshwater resources. As intreated at the 1992 UN Conference on
Environment & Development in Rio de Janeiro, the UN General Assembly designated 22nd March World Water Day by approving a resolution. World Water Day perceives water & each year World Water Day lime-lights a specific aspect of freshwater.World Poetry Day celebrated on - 21st March 2019
World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on 21st March by UNESCO. World Poetry Day aims to encourage the reading, writing, printing & teaching of poetry worldwide. The resolution to perceive March 21st as World Poetry Day was accepted by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization during its 30th session organised at Paris in 1999.
Important Highlights of the session- Poetry satisfies unfulfilled aesthetic desires in society.
- More than last 20 years, poetry has made a revival & the number of poets has augmented.
- The society has encouraged young people to return to their roots & Poets are taking on new roles in society.
- Poetry is part of the gratitude of ancestral values & a return to speech as a means of socializing a person.
- Contemporary media has failed to recognise the poet serious & consequently action is desirable to give poetry its rightful place in society.
- Hence United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization decided to perceive March 21 as World Poetry Day to deliver fresh recognition & impetus to national, regional & international poetry movements.
