    J Jayalalithaa takes oath as - Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

    Among Important National Current Affairs, Ms. J Jayalalithaa who is popularly known as Amma has sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after winning 2016 State Assembly Election. She took oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for sixth time with absolute majority. 

    This oath ceremony was held at the Centenary Auditorium, Madras University. Dr.K. Rosaiah who is a State Governor, administered the oath of office and secrecy to her at oath.

    However, Governor also administered oath of office and secrecy to the 28 ministers of her government.

    • J Jayalalithaa is also known as Jayalalithaa Jayaram . 

    • After Janaki Ramachandran, Jayalalithaa is the second female Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

    • Jayalalithaa was an actress before entering into active politics and appeared in 140 films which include Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films.

    Which two countries sign 12 bilateral agreements in various areas - India, Iran

    Among Important International Current Affairs, India and Iran signed 12 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) and Agreements in various areas including building and operating the Chabahar port by India. 

    Whereas, the other agreements include cooperation in science and technology, culture, library sciences, and cooperation between the EXIM banks of both the countries. 

    After the delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani these agreements were signed.

    • Bilateral contract on Chabahar Port for port development and operations was signed between IPGPL (India Ports Global Private Limited) and Arya Banader of Iran. 

    • It also envisages development and operation of two terminals and 5 berths with cargo handling (general and multipurpose) capacities for 10 years.

    Which country wins Uber Cup Badminton tournament for 14th time – China

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 21 May 2016, Chinese women badminton team showing its supremacy won the Uber Cup title. 

    In this final played at the Kunshan Sports Centre Gymnasium in Beijing, the host country defeated South Korea 3-1.

    Since 2012, China was the host country’s third triumph and overall it won the title for 14th time since it first started competing in the Uber Cup in 1984.

    South Korean team was unable to end their six-year drought at the Uber Cup.

    Which state begins artificial propagation programme of Golden Mahseer fish for conservation - Himachal Pradesh

    Among Important National Current Affairs, in the third week of May 2016 Himachal Pradesh fisheries department launched an artificial propagation programme for rehabilitation and conservation of Golden Mahseer fish.

    With an outlay of 6 crore rupees, a hatchery has been set up at Machhial near Joginder Nagar town in Mandi district to rear the mahseer. The hatchery-reared juveniles would be released into the rivers and reservoirs.

    Who is appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry - Kiran Bedi

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 22 May 2016 BJP leader and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Puducherry. 

    Now, Puducherry will have a full time Lt. Governor after a gap of two year. Kiran Bedi will succeed Ajay Kumar Singh, the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who was holding the additional charge of Puducherry since July 2014. 

    In July 2014, the LG post of Puducherry was vacant after the union government sacked Virendra Kataria from the post.

    Anurag Thakur unanimously elected - BCCI President

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 22 May 2016 Anurag Thakur was unanimously elected as 34th BCCI President at the board’s special general meeting (SGM) in Mumbai. 

    Anurag Thakur will serve as BCCI President until September 2017.

    Anurag Thakur, is the second youngest BCCI chief. He is a BJP MP in Lok Sabha from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district. 

    Do You Know – 

    • Anurag Thakur succeeds Shashank Manohar who stepped down from the position to take up the ICC chief's job. However, Manohar was elected the ICC's first independent chairman on 12 May 2016.

    • Before being appointed as BCCI President, Thakur resigned as BCCI Secretary. Thakur at the age of 41 will also represent the BCCI on the ICC executive board and the Asian Cricket Council.
