India's Chief Hockey Coach Terry Walsh withdrew his resignation

On 22nd October 2014, India's Chief Hockey Coach Terry Walsh withdrew his resignation after one day. He had resigned before on 21st October 2014. He withdrew his resign after meeting with the Sports Ministry and SAI officials. 

Terry Walsh guided well Indian hockey to get a gold medal few weeks ago in the Asian Games held in Incheon, so his retension is really a good news for Indian Hockey fans.

Cairn India appointed Mayank Ashar as MD and CEO

Among the important Appointments current affairs, On 21st October 2014 Mayank Ashar was appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cairn India. This appointment will be in effect from 17 November 2014.

Earlier in August 2012 after resignation of Rahul Dhir, there was no full time CEO of Cairn India Limited.

Cairn India is now a part of Vedanta Group.

Power Trade Agreement inked between India and Nepal

On 21st October 2014, India and Nepal inked a Power Trade Agreement that will allow the exchange of electricity between India and Nepal. 

This agreement will help in boosting Indo-Nepal ties through increased cooperation in the field of transmission interconnection, grid connectivity and power trade

Prestigious Sakharov human rights prize bagged by Denis Mukwege

On 21st October 2014, Congolese gynaecologist Denis Mukwege Mukengere was awarded with prestigious Sakharov human rights prize 2014 for his efforts in helping thousands of gang rape victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Denis Mukwege Mukengere is the founder and medical director of Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Sakharov Prize was named after the famous Russian scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov. This award is aimed to recognize promotion of human rights and democracy around the world. 

Nigeria was declared Ebola Free country by WHO

It was a great news for Nigeria as the country was declared Ebola free on 20th October 2014. It was declared Ebola free as no new cases were reported within 42 day period. 

This announcement was made by the WHO representative Rui Gama Vaz in Nigeria's capital Abuja.
