On 21 September which day is celebrated - International Day of Peace
Among Important International Current Affairs, every year on 21st September the International Day of Peace is observed across the world. Main agenda of celebrating this day is to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
However, this International Day of Peace acknowledges the efforts of those who have strived to end conflict and promote peace. This day is also observed as a day of ceasefire.
Theme of the year 2016 is - “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace”.
India successfully test fires long range surface-to-air which missile off Odisha coast - Barak-8
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 20th September 2016 India has successfully test-fired the most advanced surface-to-air missile 'Barak-8' off the Odisha coast.
However, this long-range nuclear capable ballistic missile, developed jointly with Israel, was launched from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in Balasore district.
Do You Know –
• This 4.5-meter missile weighs around 3 tonnes and can carry a payload of 70 kilograms.
• The system also contains a Multi-Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (MF STAR) for detection, tracking and guidance of the missile.
Who has been honoured as 2016 Humanitarian of the Year by Harvard Foundation - Aung San Suu Kyi
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 15th September 2016 Nobel laureate and Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi was honoured as the 2016 Humanitarian of the Year by the students and faculty at the Harvard Foundation.
Before this, she has also gained international prominence as the General Secretary of the National League for Democracy in Myanmar in 1990.
Who has been appointed as India's Ambassador to Sweden - Monika Kapil Mohta
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 17th September 2016 Monika Kapil Mohta was appointed as the India's Ambassador to Sweden.
However, Monika Kapil Mohta is presently the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and also looks after India's relations with a large part of the Asia-Pacific region.

• Monika Kapil Mohta is a 1985 batch Indian Foreign Services officer.
• Before this, she has served as the ambassador of India to Poland and Lithuania.
World leaders adopt New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants at – UNGA
Among Important International Current Affairs, World leaders have adopted New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
However, the declaration expresses the political will of world leaders, which means to protect the rights of refugees and migrants to save lives and share responsibility for large movements on a global scale.
Union Government has shortlisted how many Cities for Smart Cities Mission in 3rd batch – 27
Among Important National Current Affairs, finally the Union Ministry of Urban Development has shortlisted about 27 more cities from 12 States in the list of third batch of Smart Cities Mission.
However, these cities were shortlisted based on scores obtained in the latest round of the Smart City Challenge competition in which about total 63 cities had participated.
Amritsar in Punjab is the state that topped the list. Well, with five cities Maharashtra has the highest number of cities in the list.
Here the list also includes four cities each from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and three cities from Uttar Pradesh and two each from Rajasthan and Punjab. Nagaland and Sikkim with one city each for the first time have made it to the list.
