National Electoral Roll Purification 2016 launched by – ECI

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 20th July 2016 The Election Commission of India (ECI) declared that launch of National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) 2016 programme across the country.

To improve health of Electoral Rolls (ERs) and to optimize the Polling Station (PS) location and area across the country this programme was launched.

For the year 2016, the main motto of ECI is ‘No voter to be left behind’.

Which two countries ink Social Security Agreement - India, Japan

Among Important International Current Affairs, two countries i.e. India and Japan have finally signed a Social Security Agreement (SSA) and will also come into force on 1 October 2016. 

However, the SSA will also benefit Indian and Japanese professionals and skilled workers who are working in each other’s country and will also boost bilateral business linkages.

Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016 approved by - Union Cabinet

On 20th July 2016, The Union Cabinet finally approved The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016 to protect transgenders from discrimination.

However, through this bill the Government aims to evolve a mechanism for social, economic and educational empowerment of the transgenders.

Union Cabinet approves signing of Air Services Agreement between – India, Mozambique

On 20th July 2016, The Union Cabinet has finally given green signal for signing of the Air Services Agreement between India and Mozambique.

However, till now there was no Air Services Agreement between the two countries India and Mozambique. 

Though, in order to promote the air connectivity between these two countries, the two sides initiated the process of consultation in 2011 to finalize the text of Air Services Agreement.

Genes of how many old barley grains sequenced for first time – 6000 Year Old

Among Important International Current Affairs, In Israel scientists for the first time succeeded in sequencing the genes in 6000-year-old barley seeds.

After this, the ancient barley has now become the oldest plant genome to be reconstructed to date. However, before this only prehistoric corn was genetically reconstructed.

On 18th July 2016, the findings were published in the journal Nature Genetics.
