Lost WWII wreckage of warship USS Indianapolis found in Pacific on - 18th August 2017
A team of civilian researchers led by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen discovered the wreckage of World War II warship USS Indianapolis 18000 feet below the surface in the Pacific Ocean, nearly after 72 years on 18th August 2017. Others had also tried to locate the Indianapolis before, but all efforts were vain.
USS Indianapolis Sinking
- USS Indianapolis went missing after a Japanese submarine drowned it in the final days of World War II.
- The Indianapolis was sunk just in 12 minutes, making it impossible for that to deploy life-saving equipment and send even a distress signal.
- Before the attack, the warship completed a secret mission on 30th July 1945 by delivering components of the atomic bomb used in Hiroshima that brought an end to the war in the Pacific.
- Most of the ship's sailors and Marines survived the sinking, but unfortunately surrendered to exposure, drowning, dehydration and shark attacks. Out of those 1196 sailors, only 316 survived and out of them, 22 are alive today.
- The wreck was located by the expedition crew of Paul Allen's Research Vessel Petrel, a 250 foot vessel equipped with high-tech equipment capable of diving to 6 kilometers.
- After an eight-year chase, Paul Allen's team of researchers also discovered the Japanese battleship Musashi in the Philippine's Sibuyan Sea in 2015.

- Rural students are selected and provided with quality education, which is among the best education in the country under the Navodaya Vidyalaya system.
- These schools are also provided with food and lodging facilities.
New state of matter discovered by - A group of Scientists
Scientists discovered a potential new state of matter that may help explaining the phenomena like superconductivity. This study was published in the journal Nature recently.
Important Highlights- Researchers from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the U.S. have showed that among superconducting materials in high magnetic fields, the phenomenon of electronic symmetry breaking is common.
- The ability to find similarities and dissimilarities among classes of materials with phenomena such as this helps in establishing the necessary ingredients that cause novel functionalities such as superconductivity.
- It is observed that The intense-magnetic-field state of the heavy fermion superconductor CeRhIn5 has displayed a state in which the material’s electrons are aligned in such a way that apparently reduce the symmetry of the original crystals.
- It is actually something that appears to be universal among unconventional superconductors.
