NCPCR celebrates ‘Baal Utsav’ as part of Hausla-2017 on - 18th November 2017
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights admired Baal Utsav on 18th November 2017 as a part of Hausla-2017, a full-week festival organized by Women and Child Development Ministry for children living in Child Care Institutions across the Nation.
The program observed participation from approximate 1000 children. It also observed participation from child artists, theatre artists, musicians, actors, members of WCD Ministry and NCPCR and several non-government organizations from Delhi and NCR.
Talking on the occasion, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Virendra Kumar showed happiness at the presence of a large number of children and told that children are the key to success and development of the nation.
He further advised all the CCIs to provide all the children living in the institutions with a family environment to enable their growth and development.NASA launches advanced satellite to improve weather forecast on - 18th November 2017
NASA successfully introduced an advanced polar-orbiting satellite on 18th November 2017 to improve weather forecasts for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The satellite- Joint Polar Satellite System-1, JPSS-1, was introduced through a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA.Important Highlights
- The advanced technology will help upgrade weather forecasts up to 7 days in advance.
- This is the 1st in a series of 4 such satellites in a collaborative program between NOAA and NASA.
- The solar arrays on JPSS-1 deployed nearly an hour after the launch and the spacecraft was operating on its own energy.
- The satellite will be renamed NOAA-20 when it arrives its final orbit.
- It will be operation after a 3-month checkout and validation of its 5 advanced instruments.
- It is believed to improve weather forecasting including predicting a hurricane's path and will help agencies involved with post-storm recovery by imagining storm damage and the geographic extent of energy outages.
- It will also improve recognition of climate systems that influence the weather such as El Nino and La Nina.
Universal Children's Day 2017 observed across the world on - 20th November 2017
The Universal Children's Day was noted across the world on 20th November 2017 with the theme '2017: It’s a #KidsTakeOver'.
This year, UNICEF admired the day by inviting children from different parts of the world to voice their support for millions of their friends and kin who are without school, unprotected and uprooted.
The Universal Children's Day objects to advocate encourage and celebrate children's rights to build a better world for Children.Key Highlights
- The Universal Children’s Day was established by UN in 1954. The date 20th November coexists with the adoption of the 'Declaration of the Rights of the Child' by UN General Assembly 1959.
- It is also a date in 1989, when the UN General assembly acquired the 'Convention on the Rights of the Child'.
- The Day is noted each and every year to promote international togetherness, and awareness among children all across the world and improving children's welfare.
Bar Leadership Summit held on reforms in Indian Legal Services Sector by - Indian National Bar Association
The Indian National Bar Association recently organized the ‘Bar Leadership Summit on Reforms in the Indian Legal Sector’ in New Delhi in collaboration with the Department of Commerce, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Centre for Trade and Investment Law.
The Summit discussed in details the issues and concerns surrounding the liberalization of the Indian legal services. Addressing the assembly on the occasion through video conferencing, Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu emphasized on the increasing importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution and uplifted the legal community to increasingly make use of this mechanism for enhancing the facility of doing business.Following are the three major focus areas that emerged during the summit:
1. The conduct of arbitration in India
2. The reforms in the Indian legal regulatory sector
3. The liberalization of Indian legal services
The summit observed discussions on reforms in the legal sector, growth of legal market, importance of the legal services sector and need to initiate major challenges in the curriculum in law schools in India to allow young Indian lawyers to become ‘global Indian lawyers’ and avail opportunities in the increasing global corporate sector.
The talks ended with a presentation on the myths and realities covering the debate on liberalization of legal services. The Summit on the whole accepted the need to reform the legal sector to line-up itself with the new global realities in the profession.2017 Tata Literature Live Lifetime Achievement Award was granted to - Girish Karnad
Actor and playwright Girish Karnad was honored with Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 for his outstanding contribution in the field of theatre on 19th November 2017.
On the other side, Tata Trusts' Big Little Book Award' for Author in Bengali Children's Literature was given to Nabaneeta Dev Sen.
While, Book of the year in non-fiction group went to 'Age of Anger: A History of the Present' by Pankaj Mishra, whereas in the fiction group, Easterine Kire's 'Son of the Thundercloud' bagged the award.More about Girish Karnad
- widely known for writing plays, Karnad has had his works translated into different Indian languages.
Some of his critically praised plays in the era of 1960s were Yayati (1961), Tughlaq (1964), Hayavadana (1971), Naga-mandala (1988) and Taledanda (1990). - A recipient of Jnanpith, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards, Karnad made his acting impact through various films and theatre shows.
- Karnad made his screen premier in Kannada movie "Samskara" that won the 1st President's Golden Lotus Award for Kannada cinema.
- Few of his critically praised Bollywood movies are "Nishaant", "Manthan", "Swami", "Pukar", "Iqbal" and "Dor".
- He is also well known for his role of Swami's father in the TV daily soap "Malgudi Days" based on R.K.Narayan's books.
- He also worked as Director of the Film and Television Institute of India and Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy of the Performing Arts.
