    ICC adds 2 new umpires in elite board for - 2019-20 seasons

    The International Cricket Council named 2 new umpires in the Emirates International Cricket Council Elite Board of Umpires for 2019-20 seasons. International Cricket Council has called Michael Gough of England and Joel Wilson of the West Indies in this list.
    Selection board consisting of International Cricket Council General Manager (Cricket), Geoff Allardice- Chairman, match referees Ranjan Madugalle and David Boon and former player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar have raised both the umpires, Michael Gough and Joel Wilson, from the Emirates International Cricket Council International Board of Umpires to International Cricket Council Elite Board of Umpires.
    Important Highlights

    • As per to the selection board, both these umpires have gained significant experience at the international level with Gough having managed in 9 Tests, 59 One-Day Internationals and 14
      T20 Internationals and Wilson have managed 13 Tests, 63 One-Day Internationals and 26 T20 International matches. 
    • These new umpires have replaced retired umpire Ian Gould and Ravi Sundaram who were
      part of the earlier board.
    • Apart from them, other members of the Emirates International Cricket Council Elite Board
      of Umpires are Aleem Dar, Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, Chris Gaffaney, Richard
      Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Nigel Llong, Bruce Oxenford, Paul Reiffel and Rod
      Tucker.
    • On the other side, the Emirates International Cricket Council Elite Board of match referees
      is unchanged with Chris Broad, Ranjan Madugalle, Jeff Crowe, Andy Pycroft, David Boon,
      Richie Richardson and Javagal Srinath the 7 officials on that list.

    Prithvi Shaw adjourned by BCCI for 8 months for doping violation until - 15th November 2019

    Prithvi Shaw has been adjourned by Board of Control for Cricket in India till November 15th for violating anti-doping code. He ate a prohibited substance included in over-the-counter cough syrup.
    Prithvi Shaw was tested positive for Terbutaline during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. 2 other domestic players Divya Gajraj of Rajasthan and Akshay Dullarwar of Vidarbha were also detected positive during anti-doping test. Board of Control for Cricket in India has been adjourned Gajraj for 6 months while Dullarwar has been restricted for 8 months. Shaw's period of suspension is 8 months, starting from March 16th to November 15th, 2019.
    Prithvi Shaw’s Cricket Career

    • Prithvi is the 4th youngest player in the history of cricket to hit a debut century.
    • He is the 2nd youngest India player to score a test match century following Sachin Tendulkar.
    • He made a century on his Test debut at Rajkot Stadium against West Indies in October 2018. Shaw was announced Man of the Match.
    • Shaw plays for Delhi Capitals in IPL; he completed a century on his debut in Duleep Trophy in 2017. 
    • He got the highlighted in 2013 when he scored 546 runs which was world record, for Rizvi Springfield in inter-school cricket.

    Who has been nominated as Speaker of Karnataka Assembly ? - Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri 

    The Karnataka Legislative Assembly nominated BJP Members Legislative Assembly Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri as the new Speaker. Vishweshwar Hegde had filed his nomination for the after yesterday. He was nominated unopposed as the speaker of the assembly.
    Former Karnataka Assembly Speaker K.R.Ramesh Kumar had resigned from his position
    soon following BS Yediyurappa government secured floor test in the house.

    • Hegde is a known figure in Karnataka politics as he is a 6-time Members Legislative Assembly. He was the only one to file his nomination papers for the position of the Speaker. 
    • Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri represented the Ankola Vidhan Sabha electorate for 3 terms
      including 1994 to 99, 1999 to 04 and 2004 to 2008. 
    • Following the delimitation process, he shifted to the freshly formed Sirsi electorate and secured the seat in 2008, 2013 and 2018 elections. He worked as Members Legislative Assembly for Five terms in his political career and well-known as a disciplined politician.
    • He had been attended by Karnataka CM B S Yediyurapa and other BJP leaders.
    • In his college days he was an ABVP office bearer.

      K.R.Ramesh Kumar, previous Karnataka Assembly Speaker had resigned from his position when B.S.Yediyurappa government secured floor test in the house. It was Ramesh Kumar’s 2nd term as Karnataka Assembly Speaker. He was also the speaker of the house during 1994-1999.

    1st pilot to do Wingsuit Skydive Jump - IAF’s Tarun Chaudhri 

    Wing commander Tarun Chaudhri became 1st pilot of Indian Armed Forces to do a Wing Suit Skydive Jump. The jump was proficient from an altitude of 8500 ft from a Mi-17 helicopter. This is 1st Indian Armed Forces Wing Suit Skydive Jump by a pilot who has flown and captained same type of helicopter.
    Important Highlights

    • This is 1st flying wingsuit jump demo at an organised gathering. The feat was deepest inscription of ethos and professionalism of Indian Armed Forces.
    • Jump was undertaken during Kargil Diwas revelries at Air Force Station Jodhpur, Rajasthan on 21st-22nd July 2019.
    • Since 1999, Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26th in India to mark success of Operation Vijay by IAF against Pakistani burglars in Kargil sector of JandK in which IAF played a decisive role in altering the tide of the war in India’s favour.

    Shawala Teja Singh temple in Pakistan opened for Hindus by - PM Imran Khan

    Almost 1000 years old Shawala Teja Singh Temple situated in Sialkot city of Pakistan, which was sealed for last 72 years, has been re-opened for devotees for the 1st time since partition. Conclusion to reopen temple was allotted by Paksitan PM Imran Khan.

    • Shawala Teja Singh temple is an ancient Hindu temple which was constructed by Sardar Teja Singh.
    • It is devoted to Hindu deity Shiva, in Sialkot in Punjab province of Pakistan.
    • Pilgrims climb a steep staircase to reach temple. It was closed during Partition.
    • In1992 a mob objecting against demolition of Babri Masjid in India had reportedly damaged temple, following which Hindu pilgrims had stopped visiting it.
    • Evacuee Trust Property Board looks after holy places of minorities in Pakistan. Evacuee Trust Property Board has opened Shawala Teja Singh temple following Partition on request of local Hindu community.
    • The board is also undertaking restoration work of this temple which is still underway and is predictable to complete it shortly.
      Significance of Re-opening
      Restoring and re-opening of Shawala Teja Singh temple is a chief decision in favour of Hindu pilgrims who form biggest minority community in Pakistan. According to official approximations nearly 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan. Majority of them are settled in Sindh province where they share culture, traditions and language with Muslim people.

    Infosys initiated its state-of-the-art Cyber Defence Centre in Bucharest, Romania. This Defence Centre is an increase of services delivered via Infosys Digital Innovation Centre which opened in Bucharest in primary 2019.

    • Cyber Defence Centre will deliver Real-Time, End-To-End, 24×7 Cyber Security monitoring and protection facilities to support European and global businesses on their digital transformation journey.
    • Services provided consists of security analytics, security monitoring, management and remediation, incident discovery, threat hunting and response.
    • These facilities will be delivered by certified and highly-skilled cyber security specialists and also services offered will fulfil with nation-specific regulatory needs.
    • With the release of new Centre Infosys is expanding its present team in Romania by recruiting local talent as well as investing in advanced training for both its current employees and new hires.
      Significance
      The Cyber Defence Centers by helping enterprises Prevent, Detect and Respond to advanced cyber-attacks will enable them to scale securely in their digital journey.
      Reason behind Romania
      Since the European country is an established leader in European cyber security talent market thus became a natural choice for Infosys to invest in and develop cyber security research and innovation potential.

    Pact to acquire R-27 Air-to-Air Missiles from Russia signed by - India

    India has inked Rupees 1500 crore pact to acquire R-27 air-to-air missiles from Russia for arming Su-30MKI combat aircraft fleet of the Indian Air Force and for improving its capabilities in beyond visual range warfare.
    Important Highlights

    • R-27 air-to-air missiles have been attained under 10-I projects which mandate all the three
      services including Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force to maintain critical weapon
      systems and replacements for a specified minimum period called as War Wastage Reserve.
    • In almost past two months IAF has inked pacts worth more than Rupees 7600 crore for obtaining equipment under emergency needs provisions approved by Union Defence Ministry in aftermath of Pulwama Attack.
    • These Rupees 7600 crore has been paid by India Air Force in obtaining missiles like Spice-2000, Strum Ataka ATGMs and a large number of spares under emergency procurement route.
      Emergency Powers
    • Following Pulwama attack in which 44 CRPF personnel were murdered, Central government had given emergency powers to all three services to buy whatever equipment is needed by them for protecting borders with Pakistan. Under these powers given, security forces can purchase equipment of their choice within three months at cost of up to Rupees 300 crore/case.

    • It is a medium-to-long-range air-to-air missile.
    • It is developed by Russia for its MiG and Sukhoi series of fighter jets.
    • These Russian missiles with an extended range would give an added capability to Sukhois to take on enemy aircraft at long ranges.
