    Union Government constitutes what for timely implementation of Central Schemes – DISHA

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Government has finally constituted the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) for effective development and coordination of Central Government’s programme, which will be known as DISHA. Its first meeting will be held on August 13, 2016. 

    However, it will monitor the implementation of 28 schemes and programmes of Union Ministry of Rural Development and other Ministries also with an aim to promote synergy and convergence for greater impact.

    Madras HC will be now called as - Tamil Nadu HC

    On 1st August 2016, The Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to rename the Madras High Court as the Tamil Nadu High Court. 

    This resolution on the matter was moved by Chief Minister J Jayalalitha as most of the High Court established after the formation of new states based on linguistic lines, which have been named after the states only.

    On 19th July 2016, the resolution was presented in light of the High Courts (Alteration of Names) Bill, 2016, which was introduced in Lok Sabha.

    Maiden Agartala to Delhi broad gauge train service launched by - Railway Ministry 

    The maiden broad gage train service dubbed as ‘Tripura Sundari Express’ from Agartala (Tripura) to Delhi has been flagged off by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. 

    After this, now the landlocked north eastern state of Tripura entered the broad gauge railway map of the country.

    Do You Know – 

    • The Maiden ‘Tripura Sundari Express’ will run weekly between Anand Vihar (Delhi) and Agartala (Tripura). 

    • However, this train service will cover distance of 2461 kms in 46 hours and 50 minutes. It will also have commercial stoppages at 16 stations.

    Patna Pirates wins 4th season of - Pro Kabaddi League

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, by defeating Jaipur Pink Panthers, finally the Patna Pirates have won the fourth edition of STAR Sports-Pro Kabaddi League. 

    After this win, Patna Pirates has now become first team to defend its title which they won in the third season in March 2016. 

    Do You Know – 

    • In Pro Kabaddi League final match, which is played at Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad (Telangana) the defending champion defeated Jaipur Pink Panthers by 37-29 score. 

    • However, the Puneri Paltan was placed at the third place in this edition after they defeated Telugu Titans by 40-35 score.

    2016 German Grand Prix of F1 won by - Lewis Hamilton 

    On 31st July 2016, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes won the 2016 German Grand Prix, which is held in Hockenheimring.

    Please Note: The 2016 German Grand Prix has been turned out to be fourth consecutive win for Hamilton. The previous three are 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix, 2016 British Grand Prix and 2016 Austrian Grand Prix.

    However, till now, 5 drivers have won three German Grand Prix in their careers. 

    After this win, Hamilton joins the league of Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Fernando Alonso.

    Tokyo elects whom as first female governor - Yuriko Koike

    Among Important International Current Affairs, on 31st July 2016, Former Japanese Defence Minister Yuriko Koike was elected as the first woman governor of Tokyo, the capital city of Japan.

    However, Yuriko Koike garnered more than 2.9 million votes in the election, she grabbed this win by defeating her opponents, Hiroya Masuda and Shuntaro Torigoe, by a wide margin.
