    PM Narendra Modi to launch National Museum of Indian Cinema  on - 19th January 2019

    PM Narendra Modi will initiate the National Museum of Indian Cinema- NMIC, in Mumbai on January 19th, 2019.  The development of the Museum was directed by the Museum Advisory Committee led by Shyam Benegal. An innovation Committee led by Prasoon Joshi issued an upgrade to the National Museum of Indian Cinema.

    • Constructed at a cost of Rupees 140.61 crores, the museum portrays the journey of more than a century of Indian cinema in a story-telling mode with the benefit of visuals, graphics, artefacts, interactive displays & multimedia expositions.
    • The Museum is contained in 2 buildings including the New Museum Building & the 19th century historic palace Gulshan Mahal, in the Films Division campus in Mumbai.
    • The Gulshan Mahal is an ASI Grade-II Heritage Structure which has been reinstated as part of the National Museum of Indian Cinema project. 
    • It is divided into nine sections, known as, The Origin of Cinema, Cinema comes to India, Indian Silent Film, Advent of Sound, The Studio Era, The impact of World War-II, Creative Resonance, New Wave & Beyond and Regional Cinema.

    NAS Shibpur to be commissioned as INS Kohassa on - 24th January 2019

    Naval Air Station- NAS Shibpur will be commissioned as INS Kohassa by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba on January 24th, 2019. The initiative is being undertaken to improve the operational capability of Andaman &Nicobar Command. Naval Air Station Shibpur was recognized in 2010.
    The Naval Air Station Shibpur was formed as a Forward Operating Air Base for surveillance in North Andaman.
    Situated in the Northern-most part of the islands, the airfield grasps strategic significance not only for the security of the islands but also for its overall development.

    • INS Kohassa has been termed following a White-Bellied Sea Eagle, which is a big bird of prey endemic to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
    • By commissioning Naval Air Station Shibpur as INS Kohassa, the Andaman & Nicobar Command's capacity to operate autonomously from all the areas of Andaman & Nicobar Islands will receive a great boost.
    • After commissioning, the station will work as a base for combine operation of both military & civil aircraft in keeping with the UDAN scheme of the government.
    • INS Kohassa will become the 3rd NAB in the Andaman &  Nicobar islands after INS Utkrosh at Port Blair & INS Baaz at Campbell Bay.
    • As part of the Phase-II expansion plan, the airstrip length would next be extended to 3000 metres. This would enable the action of wide-bodied civil & defence aircraft in the future.

    Vinesh Phogat becomes first Indian athlete to be chosen in Laureus World Comeback of Year Award on - 17th January  2019

    Indian star wrestler Vinesh Phogat on January 17th, 2019 became the 1st Indian athlete to be chosen for the prestigious “Laureus World Comeback” of the Year Award.
    Vinesh Phogat has been chosen in “Laureus World Sporting Comeback” group for the year 2019 & will be competing for the award with few of the world’s greatest athletes including golfer Tiger Woods, Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris, American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn, Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Manyu & Dutch para-snowboarding star Bibian Mentel-Spee.
    The Awards will be given on February 18th, 2019 in Monaco, city on France’s Mediterranean coastline.

    • Phogat has been chosen for the award alongside United States Tour Championship winner Tiger Woods, who secured his 1st tournament in 5 years.  
    • The 24 years old from Haryana made a extraordinary comeback in 2018 after battling a long injury lay-off.
    • She not only secured Gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games but also secured a silver in the 2018 Asian Championships in Bishkek & a Gold at the Asian Games in Jakarta.
    • Vinesh Phogat was one of the favourites to secure a medal for India at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but a terrible knee injury pushed her out of the tournament during the quarter-finals. 
    • Though the damage was viewed virtually as a death sentence for her career, the wrestler progressively worked her way back to fitness.

    The Union government has sanctioned Integrated E-filing & Centralised Processing Centre 2.0 Project of the Income Tax Department to improve the efficiency of income tax administration system in the nation.

    Sustainable Catchment Forest Management launched in - Tripura

    Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb released the Sustainable Catchment Forest Management- SCATFORM,
    project which is undertaken with the help of Japan International Cooperation Agency.

    • The Sustainable Catchment Forest Management project goals to address matters including forest cover loss & forest degradation have been mostly caused by shifting cultivation, which upsurges soil erosion risks on hill slopes especially in upper catchment areas.
    • The Sustainable Catchment Forest Management project being would be applied mainly in upper
      catchments where forest degradation & soil erosion are unadorned & income improvement desires are high.
    • The actions undertaken under the project includes promotion of bamboo plantation, agroforestry-based income, eco-tourism expansion, development of value addition for bamboo & other Non-Timber Forest Product in order to generate alternate income opportunities for local communities.
    • The 80% of the cost is issued by Japan International Cooperation Agency & the balance would be paid by the state &  central governments.

    Haryana announces Shaurya Award for Students by - CM Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar

    The CM Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar has declared the Shaurya awards for students in the name of 71
    state police martyrs.

    • The Shaurya Awards with award money of Rupees 11000 will be bestowed to students in the name of 71 personnel of the state police forces who lost their lives while protecting society & maintaining law & order in the state.
    • The award would be issued to a student for brave deeds every year in a village block where the school is situated & where a martyr studied during his childhood.
    • The declarations were done by the CM while addressing the family members of Haryana Police martyrs at while addressing the National Police Memorial in New Delhi.
    • The CM also declared the construction of a state-level police memorial in the state of Haryana & issued the book titled “Martyrs of Haryana police”.

    • National Police Memorial honours the 34844 police staffs from all of the central & state police forces in India who have lost their lives in the line of duty since the country’s Independence in 1947.

    President Ram Nath Kovind has designated senior advocates Sanjay Jain & KM Nataraj as Additional
    Solicitor Generals of India. The designations were accomplished by the President according to the
