South African Cricket player AB de Villiers hit fastest century in ODI
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 18th January 2015, South African cricketer AB de Villiers scored the fastest century in ODI (One Day International). He made it in just 31 balls and broke the record previously held by New Zealand's Corey Anderson (36 balls).
He made this historic century at the Wanderers in Johannesburg while palying against West Indies.
These are the five fastest centuries :
- AB de Villiers (South Africa) in 31 balls against West Indies on 18th January 2015,
- Corey Anderson (New Zealand) in 36 balls against West Indies in Queenstown on 1st January 2014,
- Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) in 37 balls against Sri Lanka in Nairobi on 4th October 1996,
- Mark Boucher (South Africa) in 44 balls against Zimbabwe in Potchefstroom on 20th September 2006 and
- Brian Lara (West Indies) in 45 balls against Bangladesh in Dhaka on 9th October 1999.
Pankaj Advani claimed National Billiards title for seventh time
On 17th January 2015, Cueist Pankaj Advani lifted National Billiards Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club in Kolkata by defeating Dhruv Sitwala by 5-0. He lifted this title for the seventh time.
Sydney International Tennis Tournament Men's single title lifted by Viktor Troicki
On 18th January 2015, Serbian player Viktor Troicki lifted Men's Single title of Sydney International Tennis Tournament. He defeated Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan by 6-2, 6-3 in the finals. With this win he jumped from 92nd rank to 54th rank, though his best rank was 12.
World Congress on Information Technology 2018 will be hosted by Hyderabad
On 16th January 2015, During a meeting between Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao and National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) decision was taken to hold the event of World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in 2018. Theme of World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in 2018 will be "Future of Enterprises".
This will be first time when first WCIT will be held in India. It is expected to be attended by 2500 delegates from approx 80 countries which will cover issues like cyber security, global collaborative models, IT continuing education policies, global convergence, future of technology etc.
Pachim Bekeli Gaon Panchyat adopted by Former PM Manmohan Singh
Pachim Bekeli Gaon Panchyat was in news as on 17th January 2015 Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh adopted it under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY). As you are aware that former PM Manmohan Singh represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha.

Sansad Asarsh Gram Yojana was announced by PM Narendra Modi on 15th August 2014 and it aims to cover 2500 villages by 2019 as each Member of Parliament (MP) will take up the responsibility of providing infrastructure and developing three villages by 2019.
PM of Bhutan Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay India visit
Among the Important Visits, Prime Minister of Bhutan Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay along with his spouse Aum Tashi Doma, Foreign Minister Rinzin Dorji and Economic Affairs Minister Norbu Wangchuk visited India from 10th January to 18th January 2015 and during his visit he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of India Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister of Home Affairs - Rajnath Singh, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley, Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel and many other leaders.
Both countries reiterated their commitment to the 10000 MW hydro power plant initiatives and also committed for early implementation of the four JV-model projects, totaling 2120 MW.
