Name the first cardiac surgeon in Maharashtra to use titanium plates for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting - Dr Rahul Kaiche
On 17th February 2015, Dr Rahul Kaiche became the first cardiac surgeon in Maharashtra and second surgeon in India to use titanium plates for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery. The surgery was successfully performed at the charitable Saibaba hospital in Shirdi by using the titanium plates instead of the traditionally used wires for sternal closure in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery.

On 18th February 2015, Bharti Airtel Limited tied-up with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to provide education,health and youth-focused content to its customers in 17 African countries. The objective of partnership is to improve African population’s access to health and education-related information from various innovative projects supported by UNICEF.The partnership includes 17 countries in Africa including Nigeria and Sierra Leone, Malawi, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Uganda, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Chad, DRC, Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Niger, Kenya. Through Airtel’s improved connectivity, Africans will have free access to mobile services and applications developed by UNICEF such as eduTrac, U-report and mTrac with improved connectivity.

On 19th February 2015, India successfully test-fired nuclear weapons, surface-to-surface Prithvi-II missile from Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, Odisha. The missile has a range of 350 Km and was tested for a shortened range of 250 km. The personnel of Strategic Forces Command (SFC) from a road mobile launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) launched the missile. After a flight duration of nearly seven minutes the missile splashed down near the pre-designated target point with a high degree of accuracy in the Bay of Bengal. Prithvi-II is capable of carrying 500 kg to 1000 kg of warheads and is thrusted by liquid propulsion twine engines and has a strike range of 350 km.

On 17th February 2015, Tata Group firm TAL Manufacturing Solutions and Europe-based RUAG Aerostructures signed a multi-year contract worth over 150 million US dollar. both the companies joined hands for the production and supply of aero structural components and sub-assemblies for Airbus 320 programme. TAL will manufacture and supply machined parts, sub-assemblies and over 550 sheet metal components to RUAG for Airbus A320 programme, as per the contract. TAL Manufacturing Solutions is a subsidiary of Tata Motors and is in commercial and defence aerospace manufacturing. RUAG is a global supplier and integrator of components for civil and military aerospace applications and is based in Germany and Switzerland.

On 17th February 2015, Poland-based Celon Pharma signed an agreement with Mumbai-based drug major Lupin to jointly develop a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline’s Advair Diskus, a drug used to treat asthma. Both the companies will jointly develop fluticasone/salmeterol dry powder inhaler (DPI) product which is a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline’s Advair Diskus and Celon will supply the product to Lupin for its commercialisation in the Canada, Mexico, US and other key markets.

On 17th February 2015, India’s first air quality checking Mobile App, SAFAR-Air was launched at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune, Maharashtra. Union Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) launched the app to provide online metro Air Quality information Service in real time. Presently, the App is available only for Delhi city and Pune. By May 2015 it will be available in Mumbai and By 2017 the forecasting services will be extended to cover Kolkata and Chennai.

Seven frigates will be built indigenously with stealth features to avoid easy detection under the Project-17A. The frigates will be built at government shipyards in Kolkata and Mumbai. The project is a part to boost Make in India campaign to build a domestic defence industrial base and reduce dependence on expensive imports that have made India the world's biggest arms market.
