Year 2015-16 to be celebrated as Jal Kranti Varsh by Ministry of Water Resources
On 17th January 2015, Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ms Uma Bharati announced that the Year 2015-16 will be celebrated as "Jal Kranti Varsh" across the country. It was said that this programme will be celebrated in each district of the country and all efforts will be made to conserve and save water.
She also said that inter-linking of rivers has achieved considerable progress and through Yamuna-Sharada link and Pancheswar project of Nepal, more water will flow in the Yamuna in the coming years.
Foreign direct investment in November dips 6 pct to $1.53 bn
In November 2014, Foreign direct investment (FDI) into India declined by over 6 per cent as it was USD 1.53 billion. Earlier in November 2013 it was USD 1.63 billion.
However as per Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion data for the April-November period of the ongoing fiscal, FDI grew by 22 per cent to USD 18.88 billion as against USD 15.45 billion in the same period a fiscal before.
IAF got first indigenously built Light Combat Aircraft Tejas
Among the National Current Affairs, On 17th January 2015, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar handed over the first of the indigenously built Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Bengaluru.
Air Chief Marshal Anup Raha was also present in the event held at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru.
This aircarft was built by state-owned HAL and got its Initial Operational Clearance-I in January 2011 and Final Operational Clearance is expected by the year end.
