PHD Research Bureau released a Survey on - working women in Delhi
In second week of March 2015, The PHD Research Bureau of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry released a survey on working women in Delhi. The survey was named as Work-life balance and health concerns of women: A survey of Delhi.
The survey focused on the problems faced by working women which adversely affect their career growth and performance. The outcome of the analysis have been divided into three categories: Workplace Health provisions, Health Concerns and Work Life Balance.
The important discoveries of the survey are:
- 59% women reported missing work due to health issues. As many as 47% of women have reported fever, cold and cough as the main health reason for missing work.
- 23% of working women reported to suffer from aches and pains, especially back pain and headache.
- 57% of women spent less than 10% of their own income on health, while only 3% spent more than 40%.
- 64% women trusted private healthcare facilities more than government or local clinics.
- 70% of women had a provision of paid sick leaves at their respective work places.
- 39% reported three to six months maternity benefits being given to them.
- 26% fell in the category where no benefits were being provided due to non-applicability of the benefit to their designation.
- 85% of women’s workplace had separate toilets. However, only 31% of working women reported having a dispensary with a lady doctor in their workplace.
- 68% of women participants stated that they were either completely satisfied or somewhat satisfied with their work.
- 61% women work for 8-10 hours a day and travel as long as 30 km or for more than an hour to reach their workplace.
- 80% women reported that they devote 2-4 hours in household work and 53% said that they have domestic help to do household work.
Which Pioneer of Israeli Cinema has passed away - Lia van Leer
Among the important International Current Affairs, On 13th March 2015, Pioneer of Israeli Cinema Lia van Leer passed away in Jerusalem, Israel at the age of 90. She was a pioneer in the field of art film programming and film archiving in Israel.
She was the founder of Jerusalem Film Festival, Jerusalem Cinematheque, Haifa Cinematheque and the Israel Film Archive. Along with her husband she founded Israel’s first cinema club in the 1950s and she created the Jerusalem Cinematheque in 1973. In 1983 she started Jerusalem Film Festival.
In 2004, Van Leer was awarded the Israel Prize for her special contribution & lifetime achievement to State of Israel and the society. She also has been honoured by President’s Medal (also called Medal of Distinction of Israel) in 2014.
Who has won the 69th edition of Santosh Trophy of Football - Services
Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 15th March 2015, Services won the 69th edition of Santosh Trophy of football which is also called Senior National football championship. In the finals it defeated hosts Punjab 5-4 via tie-breaker played at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana, Punjab. Earlier it had won the trophy in 1961, 2012 and in 2013.
About Santosh Trophy
It is an annual Indian football tournament which is also called Senior National football championship started in 1941.
The tournament was identified after late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh which is now in Bangladesh.
Who is appointed as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of CRISIL - Ashu Suyash
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 16th March 2015, Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited (CRISIL) appointed Ashu Suyash as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. The Board of Directors of the Company confirmed her appointment.
She will take place of Roopa Kudva from June 2015. Rupa Kudva joined CRISIL in 1992 and was the MD and CEO of CRISIL from 2007 to 2014.
Ashu Suyash has experience of over 26 years in the Indian financial services industry. Presently she is the CEO of L&T Investment Management Ltd. She was authorized to this post following the acquisition of Fidelity Worldwide Investment’s India Asset Management business by L&T Investment Management Ltd.
Who has been appointed as COO and Group president of Wipro - Abid Ali Neemuchwala
On 16th March 2015, Wipro Limited on 16 March 2015 announced the appointment of former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) top executive Abid Ali Neemuchwala as the Group President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the company. The move is intended to help the company to streamline processes and allow dealing with strategic priorities at the company.
In his role in Wipro, he will head the service lines of Business Application Services, Advanced Technology Solutions, Business Process Services, and Global Infrastructure Services. He will also lead Business Operations; the geographies comprising Continental Europe, Latin America, and Africa; Strategic Engagements, Advisor Relationships as well as the Marketing function.
Who is appointed as the brand ambassador of the NE region by Union Ministry DoNER - Mary Kom
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 15th March 2015, Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) announced to appoint Olympic Bronze medallist boxer MC Mary Kom as the brand ambassador of the North-East region.
She as the brand ambassador of the Northeast will showcase the potential of the region which offers 2.4 trillion rupees business opportunities across various sectors. Her name was selected from the list of shortlisted famous personalities by a committee headed by DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh.
