What identified as ‘missing element’ in Earth’s core – Silicon
Among Important International Current Affairs, Scientists from Tohoku University in Japan have claimed that Silicon (Si) is one and only the ‘missing element’ in the Earth’s core.
However, with the help of this discovery, we can better understand how our world has been formed.
According to scientists, silicon likely makes up a significant proportion of Earth’s core after its major constituents iron and nickel. It was missing element in the deep interiors of our planet that has eluded us for decades.
IMF downgrades India’s GDP growth forecast to – 6.6%
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 16th January 2017 the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released the World Economic Outlook Update 2016 in Washington DC, the USA.
However, the update estimated the global growth at 3.1% in the last year 2016. Also the growth forecast is in line with the October 2016 forecast.
Also with regard to India, the update projected India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate at 6.6% in 2016-17 against its earlier estimate of 7.6%.
For this year and the coming year 2017-18, the growth rate is trimmed by 0.4% points.
2016 T S Eliot Prize for Poetry is won by – Jacob Polley
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 16th January 2017 poet Jacob Polley won the 2016 T.S. Eliot Prize for his collection ‘Jackself’.
However, this award ceremony was organized at the Wallace Collection Gallery in London.
Polley is known to be the 23rd winner of the prestigious USD 24000 award.
