President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Hari Shankar Brahma as New Chief Election Commissioner
Among the Important Appointments, On 15th January 2015, Senior most Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India Harishankar Brahma was appointed as new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) by President Pranab Mukherjee. He succeeded V.S. Sampath who demitted the office on 15th January 2015 after attaining the age of 65. Harishankar Brahma is IAS officer of 1975 batch of Andhra Pradesh cadre.

Wholesale price Index-based Inflation raised 0.11 percent in December 2014
As per the data released by Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry on 14th January 2015, wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation raised marginally to 0.11 percent in December 2014 which was zero percent in November 2014
Rise was on account of an increase in prices of food items, particularly fruit. The inflation in manufactured products has the highest weight on WPI was declined on low demand and global cues. Fuel prices also declined as global crude oil rates fell.
Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification Leela Samson resigned
On 16th January 2015, Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Leela Samson resigned from the post. She was serving at this post since 1st April 2011.
Leela Samson is Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, instructor and writer. She was also conferred with Padma Shri.
She served as a director of Kalakshetra from April 2005 to April 2012 and was also chairperson of Sangeet Natak Academy from August 2010 to October 2014.
Haryana Government appointed Baba Ramdev appointed as state brand ambassador
On 15th January 2015, Yog guru Baba Ramdev was appointed as state brand ambassador of Haryana Government, which was announced by Minister of Sports and Health of Haryana, Anil Vij.
Haryana Govt took this decision as it want to promote yoga and ayurveda in Haryana state as part of this Krishna Ayurvedic college of Haryana will be developed into an Ayurvedic University whereas a yogic centre of international standards will be built in Panchkula. Yoga will be made as a subject in schools and herbal forest will be developed over thousands of acres of land in Haryana state.
RTI activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal conferred with Giraffe Hero award 2015
On 15th January 2015, Noted Indian RTI activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal was conferred with the Giraffe Hero award 2015 by a US-based NGO The Giraffe Heroes Project. On 22nd January 2015 he will receive this award.
He was named for this award for his bravery in utilising the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 for public good despite innumerable challenges.
