Sri Lanka got its 7th President as Maithiripala Sirisena
Maithiripala Sirisena sworned in as 7th President of Sri Lanka. He succeeded Mahinda Rajapaksa. His oath of office was administered by Sri Lankan Supreme Court Judge K Sri Pawan at a ceremony held at the Independence Square in Colombo.
About Maithiripala Sirisena :
Maithiripala Sirisena has done a Diploma in Political science at the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Russia and by contesting the parliamentary elections as an Sri Lankan Freedom Party candidate in 1989 he joined mainstream politics. He was appointed as General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 2001. In 2004 he was appointed as the Cabinet Minister of Mahaweli, River Basin & Rajarata Development and In 2005 he was appointed as the Cabinet Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Mahaweli Development, later he served Cabinet Minister of Health in 2010.

Chinese nuclear physicist Yu Min honoured with State Preeminent Science and Technology Award 2014 of China
Among the important international current affairs, On 9th January 2015 State Preeminent Science and Technology Award 2014 of China was presented to Chinese nuclear physicist Yu Min by Chinese President Xi Jinping. He was honoured for his services in research into nuclear weapons since the 1960s.

On 9th January 2015, Fifteen NRI personalities were awarded with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2015 by Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari during the occasion of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Following are the people who were awarded with this prestigious award :

Senator Liza Singh from Australia was also awarded as he was unable to accept this award in 2014 so was presented this year.
Former Plan Panel secretary Sindhushree Khullar appointed as CEO of NITI Aayog
On 10th January 2015, Senior IAS officer of Union Territories cadre (1975 batch) Sindhushree Khullar appointed as CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog. She will be serving at this position for one year.
In April 2012, She became Member Secretary of Planning Commission and succeeded Sudha Pillai, later in March 2013 she was appointed as Secretary of the Planning Commission for two years.
