IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan awarded Vir Chakra on - Independence Day
IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman awarded the Vir Chakra gallantry medal on 15th August. This award is presented for bravery acts on the battlefield. Squadron Leader Minty Agarwal who also played an important role in the Balakot airstrikes is awarded the Yudh Seva Medal.
IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman spent almost 60 hours in Pakistani custody after his MiG-21 Bison jet was shot down during aerial combat with Pakistani jets on 27th February 2019, just a day after the Balakot airstrike by India. He suffered injuries while ejecting from his MiG-21 Bison.

Swachh Survekshan 2020 and Swachh Nagar app with Key Focus areas launched by - Government
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the SS 2020 (Swachh Survekshan 2020 ), the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey. SBM Water PLUS Protocol, Swachh Survekshan 2020 Toolkit ,Swachh Nagar app and AI-enabled mSBM App were also launched.
Earlier this year in 2019, the government has launched Swachh Survekshan League 2020 with the objective to susatin the on-ground performance of cities along with continuous monitoring of service level performance on cleanliness.
Swachh Nagar Mobile App
- This app is featuring waste collection tracking by ULBs through route and vehicle monitoring, notification to citizens, online collection of user fee for waste collection and an effective grievance redressal mechanism.
- This app will be the answer to several issues that hinder effective waste management such as a lack of monitoring, collection of segregated waste, and tracking the movement of waste vehicles and waste pickers, amongst others.
- AI-enabled mSBM App was also launched. National Informatics Centre developed this app that helps detect the beneficiary face and toilet seat in the photo uploaded using Artificial Intelligence model at the backend.
