India celebrated 68th Independence Day
On 15th August 2014, India celebrated its 68th Independence Day. People celebrated the day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi raised the Indian national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi and given a speech.
Next gen e-ticketing system launched by Indian Railways
Indian Railways has launched the next generation e-ticketing system which will enhance the booking capacity online. Before this booking capacity in old system was 2000 tickets per minute, which increased to 7200 tickets per minute thus making process much faster now.
Before it only 40,000 concurrent user can book ticket at a time, which has been increased to 1,20,000 concurrent users now.
At the launch Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda said, “It was a rail budget commitment which was fulfilled today”.
Free ATM usage of other banks cut to three from five per month
Among the Banking Current Affairs, On 14th August 2014, The Reserve Bank of India cut the number of free transactions at ATMs of other banks to three. Earlier the free number of transactions at other banks ATMs were five.
So now user have to pay if he/she uses other bank ATM for more than three times in a single month.
The central bank has allowed banks to impose a charge of Rs 20 per transaction on additional use of ATMs.
Govt to launch Jan Dhan Scheme
On 15th August 2014, Prime Misiter of India Shri Narendra Modi announced the launch of "Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana" in his maiden Independence Day address to the nation. This scheme will help the poor people across the country to open bank accounts which will come with the facility of a debit card and an insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh.
PM said, "We want to integrate the poorest of the poor with bank accounts with Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana". The Union Cabinet has already cleared the two-phase financial inclusion scheme under which bank accounts will be opened for 15 crore poor persons with an overdraft facility of Rs 5,000 and accident insurance of Rs 1 lakh.
