After 25 years Yal Devi Express flagged off by Srilankan President
On 13th October 2014, Yal Devi Express flagged off by Srilankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This train will be extended to from Palai to Jaffna. Indian railway subsidiary The India Railway Construction International (IRCON) has completed this restoration.
Work on this track was started in March 2011 which took three years to complete.
Cyclone Hudhud struck coastal areas of India
On 12th October 2014, Cyclonic Storm Hudhud struck the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. This Cyclonic Storm caused heavy rains and winds. Winds were flowing at 155 to 190 kilometer per hour. It affected badly on electricity supply and road connectivity. Many trains were cancelled due to this.
Rescue team did a great job by evacuating more than 7 lakh people.
Cyclonic Storm Hudhud was named by Country Oman.
Amazon and Future Groups inked deal for selling goods online jointly
Among the Business Current Affairs, On 13th October 2014, deal was inked between India's largest listed retailer Future Group and world's largest online store Amazon to sell goods jointly online.
Firstly Future group will sell its fashion brands on Amazon then subsequently it will cover all other categories too. By this deal these two gaints will leverage each other strengths. As future group has strong product knowledge, extensive brand portfolio and sourcing base while Amazon has a well known e-commerce platform and customer base.
India signed Minamata Convention to control Mercury Pollution
On 30th September 2014, India signed Minamata Convention on Mercury pollution. After this convention being signed India got five years time to India to control and reduce emissions from new power plants and 10 years time for the already existing power plants.
A global treaty The Minamata Convention on Mercury is made to protect human health and save environment from the adverse effects of mercury.

Minamata Convention is named after Japanese city Minamata that has become synonymous with deadly mercury contamination since 1950.
Jean Tirole of France won Nobel Prize for Economics of 2014
On 13th October 2014, Jean Tirole of france won Nobel Prize for Economics for 2014. He was awarded this dream award for his analysis of market power and regulation.
This award will be awarded to him officially on 10th December 2014. On 10th December prize founder Alfred Nobel's death anniversary falls.
Jean Tirole is a French professor of economics who works on industrial organization, game theory, banking and finance, and economics and psychology.
