The World Day against Child Labour was celebrated internationally, on - 12th June 2019
The theme of the day this year is, “Children should not work in fields but on dreams”. The World Day against Child Labour was recognized by the International Labour Organization in 2002 to emphasis attention on the universal extent of child labour and the action and efforts required to eradicate it. The day brings together governments, employers and workers groups, civil society as well as millions of people to lime-light the plight of child labourers and measures to support them.
World Day against Child Labour 2019- This year, the ILO is celebrating 100 years of advancing social justice and encouraging decent work.
The day looks towards the United Nations SDGs Target 8.7 formed by the international community
calling for a culmination to child labour in all its forms by 2025. - Various debates took place on the day, which emphasised on major transformations being experienced in the world of work, whether the result of technology, environmental/demographic and what this means for the youngest in society.
- The discussions also focused on accelerating action towards Sustainable Development Goal
Target 8.7, involving the ratification and implementation of fundamental International Labour
Organization labour standards and compliance in law and practice. - Child labour, in particular, refers to work Is mentally, physically, socially/morally dangerous and harmful to children.
- Interferes with their schooling by grudging them of the prospect to attend school, willing them to
leave school prematurely/needful them to attempt to combine school attendance with excessively
long and heavy work. - Apart from efforts to control child labour, about 152 million children internationally are still in child
labour. Though it occurs in almost all sectors, 7 out of every 10 of these children are working in
agriculture. - In India, about, 12% of all children are involved in some form of child labour, according to the
information released by UNICEF in 2017. Hundreds of children drop out of school every year to
assist their parents earn an income.

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is again the only Indian in the Forbes 2019 list of world's
maximum-paid athletes. The list, publicized on June 11th, 2019, is topped by Argentinean football
star Lionel Messi.
Virat Kohli is graded last on this year’s Forbes list at the 100th spot, down from last year’s 83rd
rank, despite an upsurge of $1m in endorsements. As per to the Forbes 2019 list, Virat Kohli
received a sum of $25m in the past 12 months, including $21m via endorsements and $4m from
salary and winnings, making him the peak paid Indian athlete.
The Indian cricket team skipper presently leads the batting ranking in both ICC's Test and One-Day International rankings list.
His acceptance and present form has secured him deals with few of the sport’s biggest brands. He is
one of the most-sought out cricketers globally, with fan following almost in each corner.
Forbes 2019 list important Facts- Lionel Messi has surpassed the Forbes 2019 list as the world’s peak-paid athlete for the 1st time,
dethroning boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather. - Messi received a sum of $US127 million in the past 12 months including $92m from salary and
winnings and an extra $35 million from endorsements, to shift to the top spot in the list of the world's 100 peak-paid athletes. - Mayweather, who topped the Forbes list 4 times in 7 years including in 2018, did not make it to the
top 100 this year. - After Messi, at the 2nd rank is another popular football star, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo
who made the much-talked-about shift from Real Madrid to Juventus last season received an
approximated sum of $109 million in the last 12 months including $65 million from salary and
winnings and $44 via endorsements. - Besides Messi and Ronaldo, the top 5 in the Forbes 2019 list consisted Brazil’s Neymar with
$US105 million at the third rank, Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez with $US94 million at the fourth
rank and tennis great Roger Federer with $US93.4 million at the fifth position. - It is the 1st time since Forbes started tracking athlete earnings in 1990 that footballers have taken
up the top 3 spots. - Brazilian star Neymar has total predictable earnings of $105 million over the past 12 months
including $75 million from salary and earnings and $30 million from endorsements. - Swiss Tennis champion Roger Federer, who is 5th on the list, has a sum projected earnings of
$US93.4 million, including $7.4 million from salary and earnings and a whopping $86 million from
endorsements.
CEA Krishnamurthy Subramanian appointed part-time member in - IBBI
Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser and B. Sriram, former MD and CEO of IDBI Bank were selected part-time members of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India.
K Subramanian, an Indian School of Business Hyderabad professor was designated Chief Economic
Adviser for a period of three years in December 2018.
Their designation was sanctioned by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which consist of PM of
India as Chairman, Union Minister of Home Affairs and the order for nomination was allotted by
Department of Personnel and Training.
More about Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India- Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, insolvency regulatory agency was recognized on 1st October 2016. It was issued statutory powers by Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, the bankruptcy law of India which was approved by Lok Sabha on 5th May 2016.
- The IBC 2016 established Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, to supervise insolvency accounts in India and to control entities registered under it.
- The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India Governing Board consists of Ten members, including
representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of corporate affairs, and RBI. - Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India work as a regulator for supervising insolvency proceedings and articles including Insolvency Professionals, Insolvency Professional Agencies and Information Utilities in India.
High-level committee formed by RBI to - review ATM charges
The RBI has formed a high-level committee under the chairmanship of VG Kannan, Chief Executive of
Indian Banks’ Association to analyse the complete gamut of ATM charges and fees.
Key Highlights- There are about 2 lakh ATMs in India. At end of April 2019, there were more than 88.47 crore debit cards and 4.8 crore credit cards in working, and according to the Reserve Bank of India information during April only 80.9 crore transactions were accomplished via debit cards on ATM.
- Over the years, subscribers of ATMs have full-grown significantly and there have been determined demand of shifting ATM charges and fees. Thus, among demands for reviewing the levies by bank, Reserve Bank of India constituted high-level committee.
- The six member committee led by of VG Kannan, will consist of members namely Dilip Asbe who is CEO, National Payments Corporation of India, Giri Kumar Nair who is CGM, State Bank of India, Sanjeev Patel who is CEO, Tata Communications Payment Solutions, S Sampath Kumar who is the Group Head, Liability Products, HDFC Bank, and K Srinivas who is the Director, Confederation of ATM Industry.
Manipur man who detected WhatsApp bug is - Zonel Sougaijam
Zonel Sougaijam, a civil engineer from Manipur was encompassed in Facebook Hall of Fame 2019, for
sensing a WhatsApp bug that violated privacy of a subscriber.
Key Highlights- Facebook, the social media leader honoured 22 years old Mr. Sougaijam, by including him in Facebook Hall of Fame 2019 and also awarded $5000.
- His name is presently at 16th position in a list of 94 people who are involved in Facebook Hall of Fame for this year.
- During a voice call via WhatsApp, the bug introduced used to permit caller to upgrade it to a video call even without the permission and knowledge of receiver. The WhatsApp caller was then able to see what other caller on receiving end is doing, thus irreverent the privacy of receiver.
- Sougaijam discovered this bug and conveyed the matter in March 2019 to Bug Bounty Programme of Facebook, which deals with issues of violation privacy. The Facebook Security team recognized his report & its technical department fixed the bug within 15-20 days.
Who has been appointed as Leader of Rajya Sabha ? - Thawarchand Gehlot
Thawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment was recently designated as Leader of Rajya Sabha. The Leader of the Rajya Sabha is designated by the party in power at Centre.
