Charlotte Edwards, England women’s cricket captain, retires from - International Cricket
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, On 11 May 2016 Charlotte Edwards, England’s women cricket team captain, declared her international retirement. In her 20-year cricket career, she captained England for ten years and also became one of the most influential women in British Sport.
However, Edwards took the decision following England's 2016 World T20 campaign, where they lost in the semi-finals against Australia.
The 36-year-old Edwards will continue to play at domestic level including the first edition of the forthcoming Women’s Super League.

• Charlotte Marie Edwards, who is an English professional cricketer who was captain of the England women's team.
• In T20 Internationals, Edwards is the first female cricketer to score 2,000 runs.
• Also Edwards is the first player, either male or female, to score 2500 runs in T20 internationals.
UP government approves what between Taj and Lion Safari - Bicycle Highway
Among Important National Current Affairs, On 11 May 2016 The Uttar Pradesh government gave its nod to develop nearly 200-km long bicycle highway from Agra to the lion safari in Etawah.
The aim of this plan is to encouraging eco-tourism in the vicinity of the Taj Mahal.
The highway was approved in a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav.
Do You Know –
• The Bicycle Highway will not run along the Agra-Etawah main road but will cover various historical and tourism centres.
• The highway which is starting from eastern gate of the Taj Mahal, it will cover areas such as Raja Bhoj ki Haveli, Bateshwarnath Temple, Mela Kothi Jarar, Naugava ka Quila and other rural areas to reach lion safari in Etawah.
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Bill 2016 passed by - Rajya Sabha
Among Important National Current Affairs, On 11 May 2016 The Rajya Sabha passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Bill 2016. The bill is being seen as a transformational legislation that will help in improving India’s ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index.
Although, on 5 May 2016, the Lok Sabha had already cleared the bill.
This Bill is based on the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2015 chaired by Bhupender Yadav. The committee submitted the report to government on 28 April 2016.
Know About Rajya Sabha –
• The Rajya Sabha which is also known as Council of States is the upper house of the Parliament of India.
• Membership of Rajya Sabha is limited by the Constitution to a maximum of 250 members, and current laws have provision for 245 members.
• In Rajya Sabha most of the members of the House are indirectly elected by state and territorial legislatures using single transferable votes, while the President of India can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services.
President presents which awards to 35 nursing personnel - National Florence Nightingale Awards
President of India Pranab Mukherjee has presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards to thirty-five nursing personnel from across the country.
On the occasion of International Nurses Day, which is observed on 12 May, 35 nursing personnel were presented with the award at a function held in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Know About National Florence Nightingale Award –
• The award The Florence Nightingale Award was established by the Union Health Ministry to honour the selfless services rendered by Nurses with devotion, sincerity, dedication and compassion.
• This award is named after Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing. She was born on May 12, 1820 and the day is celebrated as International Nurses Day all over the world.
Who elected unopposed as ICC’s first independent Chairman - Shashank Manohar
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, veteran cricket administrator Shashank Manohar at the age of 58 was elected unopposed as ICC’s (International Cricket Council) first independent Chairman.
Shashank Manohar was the sole nominee for the position and the ICC Board has now unanimously supported his appointment. He will have tenure of two years.

• Shashank Manohar was elected to the post after the ICC Full Council’s approval of constitutional amendments proposed by the Board following its April 2016 meeting.
• The amendments had abolished the post of the ICC President and also created the post of independent Chairman.
Who launches JioMoney Wallet service - Reliance Jio
Reliance Jio Infocomm owned by Mukesh Ambani has launched digital wallet service, named JioMoney Wallet, for Indian consumers. JioMoney is a semi-closed prepaid wallet that aims to enable mobile-based transactions.
Using JioMoney Wallet service customers can store money and use it for purchasing goods and services.
Know About JioMoney Wallet –
• JioMoney Wallet service will enable customers to make bill payments, mobile and DTH recharges, send/receive money and insurance premium payments, as well as for online shopping.
• This service also allows users to send and receive money to and from family and friends. It will also enable easy transfer of JioMoney balance into the customer’s bank account.
