    National Mental Health Policy of India launched by Union Health Minister

    On 10th October, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan released India's National Mental Health Policy. It was released on the World Mental Health Day. 

    Union Government had constituted a Policy Group on Mental Health in April 2011 and based on its recommendations this policy was made. It pushes for decriminalisation of attempted suicide and holistic treatment of mental illnesses.

    Objectives of new policy are to reduce stigma associated with mental health problems and enhance availability and equitable distribution of skilled human resources for mental health.

    UK-India Financial Partnership launched by India and UK government

    On 10th October 2014, UK-India Financial Partnership was launched by India and the UK government aimed to strengthen Links Between the Financial Services Industries, which is among important financial current affairs. 

    This decision was taken at the seventh UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue earlier in July by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne. 

    Financial Services Industries will have Uday Kotak (Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank) and Sir Gerry Grimstone (Grimstone, Chairman of Standard Life and The City) as representatives from both countries. They will make recommendations to the Minister of Finance of India and the Chancellor of the Exchequer of UK at the eighth UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue in 2015 after examining the key areas of common interest.

    Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana launched by PM

    On 11th October 2014, Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi launched "Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana", which is aimed at demand driven model for village development. Under this Scheme each MP will be developing physical and institutional infrastructure in three villages by 2019. 

    This will help to raise the level of villages in all respects and will trigger holistic development of the Gram Panchayats.

    International Edition of "Encyclopaedia of Hinduism" released by India Heritage Research Foundation

    On 10th October, Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari released International Edition of "Encyclopaedia of Hinduism" by India Heritage Research Foundation. This Encyclopedia has 11 volumes and has approximately 7000 entries.

    This Encyclopedia has been prepared under the following areas like art, Hinduism in global context, Women’s issues, scholarships in Hindu studies, Spiritual disciplines, social institutions & movements, sciences, religion & spirituality, polity, philosophy, language & literature, history, historiography & geography.

    This provides authentic records of the world's oldest living spiritual tradtion Hinduism.

    October 11 observed as International Day of the Girl Child across the globe

    On 11th October 2014, International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) was observed across the globe. Theme for the year 2014 was "Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence".

    In 2014 it was observed for third time.

    In December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child.

    Vodafone won Rs. 3200 crore case in Bombay High Court

    On 10th October 2014, Bombay High Court ruled case of 3200 crore rupees tax dispute in favour of Vodafone. This bench was headed by Chief Justice Mohit Shah.

    Court also said that there is no taxable income arising out of the issue of shares.
