Mohan Bhagwat awarded honorary Doctor of Science degree on - 9th Mar 2017
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat was awarded with honorary degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) by the city-based Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University on 9th March 2017. He is a veterinary doctor by training. The RSS chief was honoured with the degree for his contribution in the field of social work and veterinary sciences.
Key Highlights
- Born on 11th September 1950, Mohan Bhagawat completed his schooling from Lokmanya Tilak Vidyalaya.
- He is the current Chief of the Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
- He graduated in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry from Government Veterinary College, Nagpur.
- At the end of 1975, he dropped out of his postgraduate course in Veterinary Sciences and became RSS pracharak.
- From 1991 to 1999, he was Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Pramukh for India and then he was promoted to Akhil Bharatiya Pracharak Pramukh.
- He is one of the most protected Indians with Z+ VVIP Security today.
Protocol amending Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement signed between - India and Belgium
India and Belgium signed a protocol on 9th March 2017 that amends the existing agreement and protocol between the two countries for Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income in New Delhi. It will help the Union Government to fight against the black money that is stashed in the offshore accounts. Fight against the black money has been a priority area of the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

- It enhances the scope of the existing framework for the exchange of tax-related information.
- It will help the government to curb tax avoidance between the two nations.
- It will also enable mutual assistance in collection of taxes.
- Sushil Chandra, Chairman Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) from India and Jan Luykx, Ambassador of Belgium to India from Belgium were signatories on behalf of both the countries.
2017 Assembly Elections of Uttarakhand won by - BJP
Election Commission of India announced the results of the 2017 Assembly elections of Uttarakhand on 11th March 2017. The elections were held in a single phase for 70 assembly seats on 15 February 2017. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), succeeded in winning 57 seats in the state election without declaring its Chief Ministerial candidate, which also makes it as the largest party in the state. On the other hand, the ruling Congress led by Harish Rawat got 11 seats only.
2017 Assembly Elections of Punjab won by - Congress
Election Commission of India announced the results of the 2017 Assembly elections in Punjab on 11th March 2017. Punjab voted in a single phase on 4th February 2017. Congress led by Amrinder Singh succeeded in winning 77 seats in the state. On the other hand, the ruling SAD+BJP got 18 seats. Aam Aadmi Party, which is a new entrant to the assembly elections in Punjab, was able to secure 20 seats.
2017 Assembly Elections of Goa won by - Congress
Election Commission of India announced the results of the 2017 Assembly elections of Goa on 11th March 2017. The elections were held in a single phase on 4th February 2017 for 40 assembly seats. Congress succeeded in winning 17 seats. On the other hand, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar could get 13 seats only.
2017 Assembly Elections of Uttar Pradesh won by - BJP
Election Commission of India announced the results of the 2017 Assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh on 11th March 2017. The elections were held in 7 phases between 7th February and 8th March 2017 for 403 assembly seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), got 322 seats in state election without declaring its Chief Ministerial candidate. On the other hand, the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) led by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in alliance with Indian National Congress (INC) received 55 seats only.
