Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to cover child cancer treatment announced by - The Union Government
The information was shared by NITI Aayog member Vinod Kumar Paul, while speaking at a function in New Delhi on September 9th, 2018 announced that the treatment of childhood cancer will be covered under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
Paul has revealed that child cancer will be treated under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and in this regard the rate is also fixed. He also added that 1.5 lakh health and wellness centres will going to be opened across India by 2022 under the scheme.
The centres will also be providing comprehensive health care for diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.More about Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
- This scheme will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay on 25th September 2018.
- It is the world's largest government-funded program, which will be covering more than 10 crore poor and vulnerable families providing coverage up to Rs 5 lakh per family every year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation.
- The healthcare initiative will be having a positive impact on approximately 50 crore Indians, especially those who belonging to BPL and lower-middle-class families.
PM Narendra Modi to unveil Sardar Patel statue on - 31st October
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced on 9th September 2018 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October 2018.
Named as the 'Statue of Unity', this statue is currently under construction on Sadhubet island at Sardar Sarovar Dam near Kevadia Colony, Bharuch district in Gujarat.
The statue will be highlighting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel works, popularly known as the 'Iron man of India'. The foundation stone of the Statue of Unity was laid down by then Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on 31st October 2014 on the occasion of Sardar Patel’s 139th birth anniversary. - The Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream project was announced on 31st October 2013 by Narendra Modi, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
- To develop this project, Modi launched a country wide campaign to collect iron to build the Statue of Unity and iron was collected from around seven lakh villages nationwide.
- The statue will be 1.82 km tall, that is double the size of New York's Statue of Liberty (93 metres).
- The project will also be including an exhibition hall and audio-visual presentation on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
- The main structure will be completed at an expense of Rs 1345 crore, a part of total amount Rs 2979 crore allocated for the project.
- With the remaining cost Rs 83 crore is being spent on the bridge to connect the memorial to the main land, Rs 235 crore is being spent on the construction of exhibition hall and convention centre, Rs 657 crore rupees will be spent to maintain the structure for next 15 years.
- Approximately 75000 cubic meters of concrete, 5700 metric tonne of steel structure, 18500 steel rods and 22500 metric tonne of bronze are being used for this project.
Indo-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2018’ to be held in Uttarakhand between - 16th September to 29th September
The joint military training Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2018 will be conducted between India and the United States in Himalayas at Chaubattia, Uttarakhand between 16th September to 29th September 2018.
As a part of the ongoing Indo-US defence cooperation, this joint military exercise would be held under the Headquarter Central Command aegis. This abhyas is a series of one of the longest running joint military training and a major ongoing bilateral defence cooperation endeavour between India and the United States.
This will be the 14th edition of the joint military exercise hosted alternately by both countries. The two-week exercise will be witnessing participation of about 350 personnel of the US Army and similar strength of Garud Division of the Indian Army.
Important Highlights of the Exercise Yudh Abhyas
- This will be providing an opportunity to the armed forces of both countries to train in an integrated manner at Battalion level with joint planning at Brigade level.
- Multiple scenarios will be rehearsed during the joint exercise with a view to understand each-other’s organisational structure and their battle procedures.
- The exercise is an ideal platform to learn from each-other’s experiences of planning and execution of their respective operations.
- Both the armies will jointly be training, planning and executing a series of well-developed operations to neutralise threats of varied nature.
- The combined exercise will be simulating a scenario where both nations are working together in counter insurgency and counter terrorism environment in mountainous terrain under UN charter.
- Experts from both the sides will be holding expert academic and military discussions to share each other’s experiences on varied topics for mutual benefit.
Fourth World Summit on Accreditation held on - 8th September 2018
The 4th World Summit on Accreditation WOSA-2018 was inaugurated by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on 8th September 2018 in New Delhi.
While speaking on the occasion, the HRD Minister stated that there is a need to cover each and every institution under accreditation but right now the number of accredited institutions is significantly less, as for now only 15 percent institutions come under accreditation and 85 percent institutions are still not coming for accreditation.
While giving the explanation on the same, Javadekar informed that it may be because of two reasons, first of which is that some institutions do not want to come under accreditation and second that there are some restrictions in our own accreditation mechanism which they may not fulfill.
Therefore, the government wants to increase the strength of the National Board of Accreditation and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council so that increased number of institutions can be accredited with time.
Supreme Court seeks report from trial judge of Lucknow court on - Babri Masjid demolition case
The Supreme Court on 10th September 2018 sought a report from a sessions judge in a Lucknow court on how it is intending to complete the trial in the Babri Masjid demolition case within the April 2019 deadline. The court has asked for the report from the judge in a sealed cover.
A Bench of Justices R.F. Nariman and Indu Malhotra also sought the Uttar Pradesh government’s response on a plea of trial court judge SK Yadav, whose promotion was stayed by the Allahabad High Court on the ground that he has been mandated by the Supreme Court to complete its trial.
