    679 member squad was cleared by Union Government for Asian Games

    On 9th September 2014, Union Government cleared names of 679 members to represent India in Asian Games. You must be aware that Asian Games are going to held in Incheon, South Korea from 19 September to 4 October 2014.

    Among 679 members there are 516 athletes and other 163 members are coaches and supporting staff. 

    India will be taking part in total of 28 disciplines of the Asian Games. 

    9th September declared as Himalaya Diwas by Uttarakhand Government

    On 9th September 2014, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand officially declared 9th September as Himalaya Diwas, which would be celebrated across the State to spread message of conservation of Himalayan ecosystems.

    This proposal of celebrating Himalaya Divas was made by leader of the opposition in the state assembly Ajay Bhatt.

    First Indian to visit Stratosphere is ISRO Scientist Suresh Kumar

    ISRO Scientist TN Suresh Kumar became first Indian to visit the stratosphere (Stratosphere is the second layer of the Earth's atmosphere). TN Suresh Kumar travelled stratosphere on 15th August 2014 to an altitude of 17100 meters in MIG-29. TN Suresh Kumar paid 15 lakh rupees for this travel. He did this amazing journey from Sokol Airbase near Nizhny Novgorod in Russia.

    "Know Your Rights" Portal launched by Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju

    On 9th September 2014, Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati launched "Know Your Rights" portal of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This portal was launched to mark the 100 days of Govt. 

    Union Civil Aviation Ministry launched no-frills airport in five cities

    On 9th September 2014, Union Civil Aviation Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju announced that Government has identified five locations for development of no-frills airports in India, these are : 

    • Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh),
    • Kishangarh (Rajasthan),
    • Jharsuguda (Odisha), 
    • Hubli and
    • Belgaum (Karnataka).

    US Open doubles title men's won by Mike and Bob Bryan

    On 7th September 2014, twin brothers of America Mike and Bob Bryan lifted men's doubles title of the US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, USA. To get this fame they defeated the pair of Marc Lopez and Marcel Granollers by 6-3, 6-4. 

    This was 5th US Tenis Open title of Bryan brothers and in total it was 16th grand slam title for them.

    Noted Indian Snooker player Pankaj Advani announced retirement

    Noted Indian Snooker player Pankaj Advani announced retirement from professional snooker tour. Please be informed that he will continue to participate in Billiards.

    He decided to get retirement from snooker as he was finding difficult to divide time between billiards and snooker.

    29 year old Pankaj Advani has won 11 world titles, out of which 2 are in snooker.
