Army Cloud, Data Centre & Digi-Locker for the Indian Army launched by - Ministry of Defence
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 9th November 2015, Army Cloud, Software Defined Data Centre and Digi-Locker facilities for the Indian Army were launched by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
These initiatives are a part of Digital Army Programme which is in turn is part of the larger Digital India initiative.
Features of Digi-Locker
- This initiative is launcehd to provide a secure and exclusive data storage space to all the units.
- It has all the advanced features like watermarking and digital signatures.
Features of Army Cloud
It comprise of a Central Data Centre, a Near Line Data Centre, both in Delhi and a Disaster Recovery site.
It will provide all IT infrastructure including servers for computing, storage, network and network security equipment.
Letter of Award to GE Global Sourcing India Pvt Limited issued by - Ministry of Railways
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 9th November 2015, a Letter of Award (LoA) to USA-based GE Global Sourcing India Pvt Limited was issued by Ministry of Railways for setting up of Diesel Locomotive Factory (DLF) and for acquisition and maintenance of mainline Diesel Electric Locomotives.
With this, a Joint Venture Company will be formed soon to construct and run the factory that will manufacture modern diesel electric locomotives of 4500 HP and 6000 HP to Indian railways.
Highlights of the Letter of Award
- Approx 1000 Locomotives will be manufactured at a basic cost of about 14656 crore rupees in a period of ten years.
- These modern powerful locomotives will support the mega freight operations.
- These locomotives will bring savings in fuel costs on Indian Railways as they are highly fuel efficient.
- These will be equipped with latest technology like motor driven blowers and compressors, REMMLOT system, electronic fuel injection system and noise control.
Who has been appointed as the Ethics Officer (Ombudsman) at BCCI - Justice AP Shah
Among the important appointments, On 9th November 2015, Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Ajit Prakash Shah, was appointed as the ethics officer (ombudsman) at Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The decision was made at the Board's 86th Annual General Meeting.
Shah was the Chairman of the Committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Finance and also the Chairman of the 20th Law Commission of India.
World Science Day for Peace and Development 2015 observed on - 10th November
Among the important International Current Affairs, On 10th November 2015, The World Science Day for Peace and Development was observed worldwide on the theme "Science for a Sustainable Future".
The theme is chosen against the backdrop of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as approved by the UN.
