    Name the state who won the silver prize of Golden Gate award - Kerala Tourism

    On 8th March 2015, Kerala Tourism won the silver prize of Golden Gate award for its global multimedia campaign to promote the backwaters of Kerala at the Internationale Tourismus-Borse Berlin (ITB-Berlin) 2015, Germany. The campaign was convictioned by Kerala State’s Tourism Department’s creative and marketing agency Stark Communications.

    The Golden Gate award (Das Golden Stadttor) is presented every year at the ITB-Berlin. It is considered the ultimate recognition in global tourism communication.

    Who is appointed as the CFO of Walmart India Private Limited - Ashwin Mittal

    Amog the important appointements, On 7th March 2015, Ashwin Mittal was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Walmart India Private Limited. He will replace Jill Anderson as he will be repatriated back to Walmart in United States.

    Walmart India also appointed Javier Rojo as the head of its Real Estate and Business Development. He will be responsible for Design & Construction, Store Planning & Real Estate.

    Ashwin Mittal had joined Walmart in 2007 as Head of Financial Planning and Analysis. Ashwin Mittal is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) having rich work experience of 25 years in multinational companies, including Silicon Graphics Cray and Yum Restaurants.

    Who has been selected for Saraswati Samman 2014 - Veerappa Moily

    Amog the important National Current Affairs, On 9th March 2015, Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader M. Veerappa Moily was selected for the prestigious Saraswati Samman 2014 for his Kannada poem Ramayana Mahanveshanam.

    Divided into five volumes, in 2007 Ramayana Mahanveshanam was first published in Kannada. Later it was translated into Tamil, Telgu, English and Hindi. The choice for the award was made by a 13-member panel of scholars and writers headed by former Chief Justice of India RC Lahoti.

    About Saraswati Samman

    Saraswati Samman is an annual award that is given in recognition of outstanding prose or poetry literary works in Indian languages that are listed in Schedule VIII of the constitution of India. This Saraswati Samman is given for the literary works of last 10 years. In 1991, KK Birla Foundation established the award which carries a prize amount of 10 lakh rupees along with citation and a plaque.

    Who has released Digital Gender Atlas for Advancing Girls Education - Union Government

    On 9th March 2015, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD) released a web-based tool for advancing girls education named as Digital Gender Atlas for Advancing Girls Education. This tool was developed with the support of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The tool will help identify low performing geographic pockets for girls, particularly from diminished groups such as Muslim minorities, scheduled castes and schedule tribes.

    The Atlas provides relative analysis of individual gender related indicators over three years and that enables a visual assessment of the change and an understanding of whether some intervention introduced in a geography at a particular point in time has worked or not.

    It is created on an open source platform with an inbuilt scope of updating data by authorized persons to retain its dynamic character.

    It enables the user to navigate between geographical representation and numeric data at block, district and state levels and gives information on key indicators for girls’ education at secondary, upper primary and primary level.

    Name the vaccine launched by Prime Minister of India - rotavirus vaccine Rotavac

    Amog the important National Current Affairs, On 9th March 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first indigenously developed Rotavirus vaccine named Rotavac. Besides GSK Rotarix and Merck’s RotaTeq this is the third such vaccine available globally against Rotavirus.

    The vaccine will boost India’s efforts to combat infant mortality due to diarrhea. Rotavac vaccine was developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model that involved Union Ministry of Science and Technology, US’s National Institute of Health (NIH), NGOs in India supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Bharat Biotech India Limited (BBIL).

    Union Government along with NIH of the US funded the basic research while the Bharat Biotech India Limited (BBIL) and the Gates Foundation contributed towards vaccine development and testing.

    About Rotavirus

    It is a most common causative agent of moderate-to-severe diarrhoea (MSD) among infants below 11 months age in India. It disperse from person to person due to bacterial agents that are primarily transmitted through contaminated food or water.

    Rotavirus vaccines are discharged orally to infants in three dose course at ages of six, ten and fourteen weeks and are part of Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).

    Which Sri Lankan cricketer has announced retirement from Test cricket - Kumar Sangakkara

    Among the Sports Current Affairs, On 8th March 2015, Former Sri Lankan cricket captain and batsman Kumar Sangakkara announced his retirement from Test cricket after playing the three-match Test series against India in August 2015.

    Sangakkara had already taken retirement from Twenty-20 cricket and One-Day International (ODI). After Sri Lanka won the T20 World cup in 2014 he took the retirement from T20 format. While, he had announced to retire from ODI cricket format after the ongoing ICC World Cup 2015.

    Currently, he is fifth highest run scorer in Test cricket. He has scored 12203 runsat an average of 58.66 in 130 Test matches.
