    Which company has opened largest mobile factory in India - Samsung

    On 9th July 2018, Samsung opened largest mobile factory in Noida, India. South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Indian PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the factory. This factory has been opened at sector 81, Noida ( Uttar Pradesh ).

    Earlier in June 2017, Samsung announced Rs 4915 crore investment in Noida plant with an aim to increase its manufacturing capacity. Samsung India is employing over 70000 people in India. In we talk about Samsung India Mobile business then it registered 27 percent growth in financial year 2016-2017.

    17th World Sanskrit Conference begun in - Canada

    On 9th July 2018, 17th World Sanskrit Conference started at Vancouver, Canada. Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurated this conference. This conference will be held from 9th July to 13th July 2018.

    This conference is being hosted by Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia. Delegates from more than 40 countries are part of this event. Purpose of this event is to promote, preserve and practice the Sanskrit language. It is the first time this event is taking place in Canada.

    Name of Indian gymnast who became first Indian to win gold at Gymnastics World Cup - Dipa Karmakar

    Among Important Sports Current Affairs, On 8th July 2018, Dipa Karmakar became first Indian gymnast to win a gold medal at FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey.
    Important to mention here she scripted history after recovering from a knee injury. Because of this injury she was off the field for almost two years. So she is also an inspirtion for us that with strong determination and hard work we can achieve anything.

    Dipa Karmakar was also the first female gymnast from India to qualify for the final vault event at the 2016 Rio Olympics, though she missed bronze medal that time. She was honoured with Khel Ratna award in August 2016. Then later on in 2017, She received Padma Shri award too.

    Use of thermocol cutlery banned by Himachal Government on - 7th July 2018

    The Himachal Pradesh government issued a fresh notification to ban the use of thermocol cutlery across the state on July 7th, 2018. It was announced by the state’s Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on the occasion of the World Environment Day on June 5th.

    In case of the breach , there will be penalties to anyone selling and littering thermocol cutlery

    The main motto behind this ban is to minimize plastic waste.As a result , this ban not only help in environment conservation, but also promote eco-tourism in the state.

    The development comes a month after the Himachal Pradesh state government launched its “Plastic Hatao Himachal Bachao” campaign on 5th June 2018, International Environment Day.

    Revenue Status to 3 forest villages under FRA, 2006 granted by - Uttar Pradesh

    The Uttar Pradesh Government granted Status of Revenue Village to three villages inhabited by the Tongia Scheduled Tribe in and around forests in Saharanpur district under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 (FRA)in the first week of July 2018. These villages are - Sodhinagar, Kaluwala and Bhagwatpur.

    Important Points

    • The granting of Revenue Status to villages means that these villages will now be coming under the revenue department instead of forest department.
    • The Forest Rights Act, 2006 has a provision to turn forest villages into revenue villages so that civic facilities reach these areas.
    • As per the FRA, forest villages are “the settlements which have been established inside the forests by the forest department of any State  Government for forestry operations or which were converted into forest villages through the forest reservation process and includes its forest settlement villages.”
