Jammu & Kashmir Government granted Divisional Status to Ladakh Region on - 8th February 2019

The J&K Governor, Satya Pal Malik granted the Divisional Status to Ladakh Region, while exercising its powers under Section 5 of Land Revenue Act, 1996 on 8th February  2019 .

The Ladakh division will be comprising Leh and Kargil districts with its headquarters at Leh. So far, the Ladakh region is taken as a part of the Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir.

The State Government also approved  the posts of Divisional Commissioner (Ladakh), Leh and Inspector General of Police (Ladakh), Leh creation as well. 

The notification is published just after the visit of PM Narendra Modi to Leh on 3rd February , 2019.
