Who has been appointed as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court - Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela
Among the important appointments, On 8th February 2016, Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
At present, he is serving as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
Since October 2015, the Bombay High Court has been functioning with an officiating Chief Justice after the retirement of Justice Mohit S Shah.
Where did the 9th Indo-Nepal Combined Battalion level Military Training Exercise Surya Kiran started - Uttarakhand
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 8th February 2016, The 9th Indo-Nepal Combined Battalion level Military Training Exercise Surya Kiran commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Under the aegis of Panchshul Brigade of Central Command, the 14-day long exercise will take place till 21st February 2016.
Nepalese Army is being represented by officers and troops of the elite Shree RudraDhoj battalion while an Infantry battalion from Indian Army will represent the exercise.
The two armies will share their experiences of Jungle Warfare and Counter Terrorism operations in mountain terrain.
Which country has approved Hindu Marriage Bill 2015 - Pakistan
On 8th February 2016, Hindu Marriage Bill 2015 was unanimously passed by a National Assembly committee of Pakistan.
Two amendments have ben made in order to adopt the bill to fix the minimum age of the marrying male and female at 18 and making the law applicable to the whole of Pakistan.
The panel recommended following amendments in clauses 2 to 25:
- As per the Clause 12 sub-section (2)(C), a spouse may also apply for termination of his/her marriage on the grounds that the other partner has been sentenced to imprisonment for a period of four years instead of three years.
- Clause 12(2d) that relates to termination of marriage will be deleted.
Which state has proposed to develop INS Viraat as Tourism Center - Andhra Pradesh
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 8th February 2016, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced plans to develop aircraft carrier INS Viraat as a tourism center.
The Andhra Pradesh government requested the Defence Ministry to allot INS Viraat to it after decommissioning, during the International Fleet Review held in Vishakhapatnam.
For this, Naidu said that a joint venture would be set up by the Andhra Pradesh government the Indian Navy and a private organisation to take up the tourism-related activities such as yachting, sea sports, sailing, gliding and cruising would be promoted.
In the aircraft carrier, a conference hall with a capacity to seat 500 people, nearly 1500 rooms and a helipad are available. Besides, the State government has also planned to establish a restaurant.
Where did the World’s largest concentrated solar plant opened - Morocco
Among the important International Current Affairs, On 4th February 2016, The Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex, world’s largest solar power plant, was opened in the Souss-Massa-Drâa area in Morocco, 10 km from Ouarzazate town.
The plant has the capacity of producing enough energy to power over one million homes by 2018 and 760000 tons per year reduced carbon emissions.
The project will be completed in three phases. The Construction of a 160MW concentrated solar power (CSP) plant named Noor I is the phase one while the construction of the 200MW Noor II CSP plant is involveed in Phase Two and the 150MW Noor III CSP plant, and the construction of the Noor IV CSP plant will be involved in Phase Three.
Key highlights of Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex
- The project forms part of the Moroccan Solar Energy Programme (NOOR), which aims to develop five solar complexes with a combined capacity of approximately 2GW by 2020 to meet the energy demands of the country, which depends on 95% imports.
- The Noor I CSP plant is expected to offset 240000 tons a year of CO2 emissions, and generate approximately 1000 construction jobs and 60 permanent jobs during the operations and maintenance phase. The Noor II and Noor III plants combined will help offset 533000 tons of CO2 emissions a year.

Among the important Sports Current Affairs, On 9th February 2016, Quinton de Kock, the wicketkeeper-batsman of South Africa, became the fastest to make 10 One Day International (ODI) centuries.
With the achievement of this feat, he broke the record of 80 innings to reach as many centuries by Virat Kohli of India.

On 21st December 2012, De Kock represented South Africa for the first time, at T20 level.
He became the second player to score four ODI centuries and the fourth player to score three successive one-day centuries before his 21st birthday
US Supreme Court stalled - Obama’s Clean Power Plan
Among the important International Current Affairs, On 9th February 2016, The Supreme Court of United States of America (USA) stalled President Barack Obama's Clean Power Plan to regulate emissions of carbon dioxide from US power plants.
The scheme put huge emphasis on a shift to renewable energy, which is designed to cut US emissions by 32 % by 2030.
In December 2015, it formed the key element of the US pledge at UN climate negotiations held in Paris.
Earlier to this, the court stalled Obama’s plan to deport at least 4 million illegal immigrants.
