UPSC India Engineering Preliminary Examination
Updated : 04-Nov-2017Indian Engineering Services (IES) comprise of all those engineers who work under and for Government of India and are posted as class one officers. They are in charge of the sector of public sector economy, which constitutes of Indian Railways, Power, Telecommunications, Central Water engineering, Defense service of Engineers, Central Engineering Service, etc.
The nature of work performed by these bureaucrats usually depends on the sector or department or cadre they are recruited in. This is a high esteem job profile which will smoothly increase time to time. The first job of a candidate is offered as assistant executive engineer and the Chairman/ Managing Director are the last position a cadet can get.
A combined competitive examination is conducted by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) to recruit engineers for IES. This exam constitutes of a written examination which, if cleared, will be followed by an interview of personal test. Eligibility for India Engineering Preliminary Examination:
- Nationality:
- A candidate must be either:
- A citizen of India or
- A subject of Nepal or A subject of Bhutan or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- Age Limits:
- The candidate must be between the ages of 21 to 30 years.
PAY SCALE:
IES/ESE Pay Scale: candidates who have already qualified for all of the three examinations will make way through this three staged process will be offered a Basic pay of 15,600 along with a Grade Pay of 5400 with added incentives like DA, HRA etc. the total gross amount is 47000
PREPARATION FOR IES PRELIMINERY
- This written exam comprises of both objective and theory based or conventional type of questions, hence theory, conceptual knowledge and problem solving techniques are equally important.
- Good writing skills, excellent presentation, subjective theory, explanations, derivations, diagrams and equations will magnetize good marks towards you and help you do well in this examination.
- Be aware of exam pattern like how many technical & nontechnical questions are asked, negative marks, weight age, exam duration and marks per question and instead to be sure of the exam pattern, refer to previous year papers and also try sample paper as they may put the upcoming exam pattern in it.
- Aspirants should try reference books for derivations, equations, conceptual thinking, theory etc.
- Short Cut Techniques: Use short techniques for numerical solving instead of traditional approach.
- Read newspapers, magazines, article on websites, books, etc will help the candidates to prepare and score better in the General ability paper carrying 200 marks. Candidate should do well in general aptitude test as they may ask the candidates about current affairs in personal interview.
- To analyze the weak topics and concentrate more on those topics, the candidate should always solve the previous year papers. Always try to solve the papers in given time to obtain an idea that how many questions you are able to solve in given time limits and so you can do well with time management.
- Perfect knowledge of the subjects, strong basics, and clear concepts will help the candidate in better and faster understanding and prove to be aiming to get the good figures.
- Personal Interview: Sound technical knowledge, Positive attitude, Body language, Good communication skills, knowledge about current affairs plays the most important role in an interview as they reflects the personality of the candidate. Candidates should be prepared for the questions about their strengths and weaknesses.
