Eligibility Criteria
Nationality: A candidate must be either (a) Indian Citizen, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention to permanently settle in India, or (e) Indian origin person who has migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Zambia, Zaire Tanzania, Ethiopia and Malawi or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided, that a candidates belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) must have eligibility certificate issued by the Govt. of India.
A candidate where certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the exam but the appointment offer may be given only after the eligibility certificate has been issued by the Govt. of India.
Age Limit -
A candidate for this examination must be between the age of 21 and 30 years
The upper age limit of 30 years will be relaxable up to 35 years in case of Govt. Servants of the following categories, if they are working in a department/office under the control of any of the authorities mentioned.
Upper age limit will be further relaxable SC/ST 5 years; OBC 3 years; candidates had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir is- 5 years.
Minimum Educational Qualification -
Candidates applying for the exam, must have obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutions established by Parliament Act or declared to be deemed as Universities u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956; or passed Sections A & B of the Institution Exams of the Institution of Engineers (India); or obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from foreign University or College or Institution and under such conditions may be recognized by the Govt.; or passed Graduate Membership Exam of the Electronics Institutions and Telecommunication Engineers or passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or passed Graduate Membership Exam of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959.
Important Note:
Candidates who intend to appear in such a qualifying exam may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted to the examination, if otherwise eligible, but their admission would be provisional and subject to cancellation, if they do not produce proof of having passed the requisite qualifying examination along with the Detailed Application Form which will be required to submit by the candidates who qualify in the written exam.
The Commission may treat candidates, who have not any of the qualifications prescribed in this rule, as educationally qualified provided that they have passed examinations conducted by other institutions the standard of which in the opinion of the Commission justify their admission to the exam in exceptional cases. Qualified candidates who have taken degree from a foreign University which is not recognized by Govt., may also apply to the Commission and may be admitted to the exam at the Commission discretion.
